THE BIBLE, GOD’S
LIVING WORD
Penge Baptist Church
5th January 2014
Hebrews 4:12-13

For the word of God is living and active.
Sharper than any double-edged sword, it
penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit,
joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and
attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is
hidden from God’s sight. Everything is
uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him
to whom we must give account.
God’s word is living


2 Peter 1:20-21 Knowing this first of all,
that no prophecy of Scripture comes from
someone's own interpretation. For no
prophecy was ever produced by the will of
man, but men spoke from God as they were
carried along by the Holy Spirit.
Mark 13:31 Heaven and earth will pass
away, but my words will never pass away.
God’s word is active

Isaiah 55:10-11 As the rain and the snow
come down from heaven, and do not return
to it without watering the earth and making
it bud and flourish,so that it yields seed for
the sower and bread for the eater, so is my
word that goes out from my mouth: It will
not return to me empty, but will accomplish
what I desire and achieve the purpose for
which I sent it.
God’s word is like a sword


Sharper than any doubleedged sword, it penetrates

the sword of the Spirit,
which is the word of God
(Ephesians 6:17)

It corrects and rebukes us.
leads us to repent


2 Timothy 3:16-17 All
Scripture is breathed out by
God and profitable for
teaching, for reproof, for
correction, and for training in
righteousness, that the man of
God may be competent,
equipped for every good work.
And brings us to Jesus

James 1:18 He chose to give
us birth through the word of
truth, that we might be a kind
of firstfruits of all he created

In view of God’s judgement

Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s
sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare
before the eyes of him to whom we must give
account.
Unleash the power of God’s word
in our lives!

Let it guide us


Let it nourish us


Psalm 119:105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a
light for my path.
Matthew 4:4 But Jesus answered, “It is written,
“‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every
word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
Let it transform us!

1 Peter 1:23 For you have been born again, not of
perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the
living and enduring word of God.
That we may obey Jesus’ commands


Matthew 22:38-39 “ ‘Love the Lord your God
with all your heart and with all your soul and with
all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest
commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love
your neighbor as yourself.’”
Matthew 28:19-20 “go and make disciples of all
nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father
and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and
teaching them to obey everything I have
commanded you”
