2 0 NOSH NEWS THE MONTHLY PUBLICATION OF APICS NORTH SHORE CHAPTER #20 – DE CMBER 2008 Six Sigma and the Power to Guide or Deceive Please join in for this presentation by Dr. Peter Green, who is a leading expert in real–time material tracking and production control. He holds a BSEE and a Ph.D. in the application of computer science to wireless communications and tracking, both from Leeds University in England. He has over 35 years experience leading teams in the implementation of tracking systems for industrial, commercial, and government applications. He was formerly on the research staff at MIT and was a Professor at WPI. He is currently the Chief Technology Officer of BellHawk Systems Corporation. With the advent of recent problems such as the contamination of dog food and spinach and the ever– present threat of bioterrorism, it has become critical for many manufacturers, food processors and distributors to maintain accurate materials traceability records. This talk discusses the challenges that industrial manufacturers and distributors face in maintaining good tracking and traceability records. It then provides an overview of how to use barcode, RFID and wireless mobility technology to solve these problems. It also describes how to make these systems quickly pay for themselves through increases in operational efficiency and improved customer satisfaction.
