Project Sheet: Cell Metaphor Poster DUE DATE: __________________________ Project Overview – Your job is to design a metaphor comparing a cell to a place or event you are familiar with and display the metaphor on a poster. A metaphor is a figure of speech where you make an imaginative comparison of the similar parts of two unlike things. An example would be: A cell is a city where all the parts work together to make it function smoothly as a whole. Be creative! You may not use the example above since we will do this one in class together. But some other ideas include: A cell is an…apartment, computer, factory, school, football team, orchestra, etc. Components/Parts 1. Choose either a plant or an animal cell. 2. Create your cell metaphor and use it as your poster title. 3. Poster Title: “A _____ cell is a _______.” (Fill in the first blank with plant or animal – choose one or the other. The second blank should be your comparison.) 4. Include all organelles listed below. 5. Beside each organelle, write a statement explaining the relevance of that organelle to your metaphor. Example: Vacuole – A vacuole is like a warehouse in a city. It stores materials needed by the cell like a warehouse stores goods that get used by the people in the city. 6. Include pictures or drawings of the cell or organelles and the metaphorical parts. 7. Your poster should be legible and neat. Required Organelles – Choose either a Plant or an Animal Cell Plant Cell Animal Cell 1. Cell Membrane 1. Cell Membrane 2. Nucleus 2. Nucleus 3. Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER) 3.
