Wylie East High School Advanced Placement United States History— 2015 Summer Required Reading Assignment Welcome to Advanced Placement US History (APUSH) with Mrs. Wiederhold! The 2015-2016 school year will be a very busy one as we prepare for the Advanced Placement exam in May 2016. APUSH is a rigorous collegelevel course that will require extensive background knowledge in US History. Since this is a college-level course that requires extensive knowledge in US History we cannot waste any time in preparing, and need to hit the ground running in August. To do this, every APUSH student will be required to complete the following summer reading assignments that will be due the first week of school. The final complete assignment is due August 28, 2015. The assignments are listed below. Please contact me prior to July 1, 2015 if you are having difficulty finding the book. Please see the website below which contains the entire book. Students are to read Chapters 1, 2 & 3 in the American Pageant textbook. Copies of the chapters are available on my class website. a. http://www.wylieisd.net/Page/7698 2. Assignment #2: United States Map Complete the blank map of the United States attached to the summer reading assignment. Label the 50 states, along with their capitals in black ink. Label the Mississippi River, Great Lakes, Gulf of Mexico, Atlantic Ocean, Pacific Ocean and the Hudson River in blue ink. Label the Appalachian Mountains, and Rocky Mountains in brown ink (marker is fine). Label Mexico and Canada in green (marker is fine). 2. Please put your name (first, last) in the upper right hand corner, followed by the date on the next line. 3. Students will be expected to label the 50 states on a map on the first day of class without the use of their map. Materials Needed for the First Day of Class: 1. Notebook paper, college ruled 2.
