SPANISH SPEAKING COUNTRIES TRAVEL PROJECT
Introduction: You and a friend want to travel to a Spanish-speaking country so that you can
practice your Spanish. To get cheaper plane tickets, you need to find at least 2 other friends to
travel with you. The problem is that all of your friends already have travel plans of their own
and want YOU and your buddy to join them on their trip so they can also get cheaper tickets.
Objectives and Connections: Students will recognize where Spanish language is spoken.
Students will recognize selected information about Spanish speaking countries. Students will
practice constructing sentences in Spanish using a format/sample. Connections: Social studies
and Mathematics.
Task
1. With a partner Research the country that both of you wish to travel to. Create convincing
arguments to persuade the other team of two to join you in traveling to your country of choice.
2. Write in Spanish: During class we will construct meaningful sentences, according to the
grade level and student’s Spanish proficiency. You will need 7-10 facts written in Spanish.
You can have the rest of your research written in English.
3. Share your presentation: in Spanish with the rest of the class. The friends you want to
convince will do the same. Take notes during their presentation so you will be better prepared
for task 4.
4. Debate: During class we will discuss where each team will prefer to travel. You want to
convince the other students why they should join you on your trip. Watch out, they will try to
convince YOU to go on their trip!
Materials
Lined paper, color pencils or crayons, cut outs or pictures of the country you have chosen. Print
outs from the internet, books or copies from travel books/magazines. (This will be your first

Evaluation and Rubric: 1. Accuracy of facts (You and your partner will choose a
minimum of 15 facts: example: the colors of the flag, tourist attractions, currency,
population, location, history, geography, food, culture etc. Teacher will provide a list of

2. Spelling and grammar (Students will follow a
