Spring 2009 SYLLABUS COS 151 3 Semester Hours Nail Care 3 Contact Hours Course Description This course focuses on all aspects of nail care. Topics include salon conduct, professional ethics, sanitation, nail structure, manicuring, pedicure, nail disorders, and anatomy and physiology of the arm and hand. Upon completion, the student should be able to demonstrate professional conduct, recognize nail disorders and diseases, and identify the procedures for sanitation and nail care services. Departmental Assessment of Learning Outcomes 1. The student will demonstrate knowledge and theory pertaining to the study of salon conduct and professional ethics by scoring at least 75% on selected questions on an exam. 2 The student will demonstrate knowledge and importance of sanitation, disinfection, and safety by scoring at least 75% on selected questions on an exam. 3. The student will demonstrate knowledge of nail structure by scoring at least 75% on selected questions on an exam. 4. The student will demonstrate knowledge of manicuring and pedicures by scoring at least 75% on selected questions on an exam. 5. The student will demonstrate knowledge of nail disorders and diseases by scoring at least 75% on selected questions on an exam. 6. The student will demonstrate knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the arm, hand, leg and foot by scoring at least 75% on selected questions on an exam. C. Use of Assessment Findings During the Fall In-service of the year following a scheduled review of this course, a committee will review all course assessment materials submitted by the instructors and division chair. The committee will send a report of any recommended curriculum changes to the division chair, who will then submit them to the Student Learning Outcomes Committee. Upon approval by the Student Learning Outcomes Committee, a copy will be filed with the Office of Institutional Planning and Assessment. Attendance Students are expected to attend all classes for which they are registered. Students who are unable to attend class regularly, regardless of the reason or circumstance, should withdraw from that class before poor attendance interferes with the student’s ability to achieve the objectives required in the course. Withdrawal from class can affect eligibility for federal financial aid. To meet requirements for licensure, the student must accumulate at least 750 clock hours of instruction. Therefore, regular attendance is mandatory.
