The instructor must be in good standing with the Cosmetology Industry Association of BC or hold a current license in the province, state or country last resided in. The facilities Should include a classroom and a salon setting. Classroom Purposes: overhead projector, VCR and television, internet access for research projects. Salon Purposes: Tables and chairs, sanitation trays and chemicals, paraffin tub and wax, lamps, OPI on the go kit, pedicure tubs, spa manicure and pedicure products, towels, and laundry facilities. : Course Synopsis: This course contains an introduction to the nail technology industry and the various opportunities available to the graduates of this program. This course focuses on professionalism as well as defining and outlining what professional responsibilities in the work place may include. Students will gain knowledge in client care, safety, personal, public hygiene, nail and skin disorders, physiology and anatomy. This course also covers traditional manicures, pedicures and spa treatments. A minimum of 1/3 of this course will also be practical such as full color and French manicure applications, manicure/ pedicure massages which are included in such services as well as paraffin treatments. Rationale: Today’s job market demands a well-rounded entry level employee. It is stated many times that in our industry that 80% of success is based on your ability to communicate properly with the clients, and 20% has to do with the accuracy of skills. Members of the industry may disagree with the actual percentages, but the fact remains, emphasis must be on people-skills training. This course is designed to prepare the nail technicians of the future with the latest techniques, information for the safe handling of chemicals, first aid, client communication skills and career survival tools to build and retain the clientele needed to prosper in the field. Students may complete their high school requirements while enrolled in this program, and high school diplomas open the door for future educational opportunities within this industry. Completing both allows students to work in an industry with flexible work days allowing for Board Authority/Authorized Course Page 1 of 3 families, medical conditions and the need for students to attend post secondary institutions and participate in other educational opportunities. They include proper salon conduct, professional ethics, and how to present themselves to clients as an attractive and well-groomed representative of the nail technology industry. Describe the type of appearance you should have as a professional nail technician. Unit 2: Overview This study enables students to prevent the unnecessary spread of infection. A basic understanding of the structure of the human body and the functions it performs will give the students a scientific background for the many nail services performed.
