Welsh Themed Wedding Tips
As St. David’s Day (Patron Saint of Wales) is celebrated on 1st March The Wedding
Planner School takes inspiration from the Welsh culture to provide you with their top ten
tips to incorporate the wonders of Wales into your special day….
1. Red, White and Green – Why not have the colours of the Welsh flag as your
colour theme or if that doesn’t appeal…
2. Dragons! – Incorporate the famous Welsh dragon into your stationery with dragons
on your wedding invites or use them to hold place cards, provided they aren’t
flammable of course!
3. Daffodils – The National Flower of Wales, which helpfully are in season at this
time of year so they should be a low cost addition to your flowers. In Wales bridal
bouquets traditionally contain myrtle and the bride gives the bridesmaids a cutting
of myrtle (symbol of love) to have in their bouquet. If a bridesmaid plants her
myrtle and it blooms, she will soon be married!
4. Harp – A harpist playing during the ceremony or as guests arrive and are served
drinks at the reception.
5. Leeks – The leek is a Welsh emblem and a main ingredient in the traditional Welsh
stew-like dish, Cawl, which along with Welsh lamb can provide a low-budget hot
main course on cold March days.
6. Lambs – If you prefer your lambs to be running around in a field, why not involve
them in the entertainment and have some lamb-racing where lambs with teddy
jockeys race to the finish line (or rather the food!).
7. Bwrdd Cynllun (or Table Plan if you prefer) – Make a feature of the Welsh
language in your table names with Cariad (love) being the top table of course! If
you are concerned that you guests can’t get to grips with
Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogeryc -hwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch stick with the
stunning scenery and use the mountain names, such as, Sugarloaf, Snowdonia etc,
instead.
8. Lovespoon Favours – The lovespoon is a traditional Welsh symbol of love carved
in wood that comes in all shapes and sizes, they even make tiny ones for wedding
favours! Whereas modern men of today might buy flowers, chocolates or jewellery
for the woman they are interested in hundreds of years ago they would spend hours
carving a love spoon to give to the young woman of their choice. If the woman
accepted it she was interested in him and they would start a relationship.
Alternatively some Welsh cakes wrapped up with some ribbon are a cheaper and
tastier option!
9. Sing High Sing Low – Whilst signing the register have a Welsh Male Voice Choir
to entertain the guests (it’s a bit much to ask them all to join in too!).
10. Free Wedding Planner – The Wedding Planner School offers a free wedding
planner service with their students and graduates or if you want to do the organising
and think it likely that your bridesmaids’ myrtle will be in full bloom you can book
as a group and receive significant discounts.
