PLEASE BE AWARE THAT COUSE REQUIRES DEDICATION TO MEMORIZE
ANATOMICAL FEATURES OF THE HUMAN BODY. INDIVIDUAL STUDY TIME IS VITAL
TO YOUR SUCCESS.
This laboratory course is for serious students with average or better ability who are interested in learning
about the various parts of the human body and their functions. Lab activities will include examination
and/or dissection of animal organs similar to human organs. The student should have high average reading
ability and have successfully completed Biology with a "C" or above. Focus will be at both micro and
macro levels reviewing cellular functions, biochemical processes, tissue interactions, organ systems and the
interaction of those systems as it relates to the human organism.
RATIONALE
The human anatomy class is an elective class designed for students interested in medically related fields or
who are interested in extending their practical knowledge about the body in which they live. Through the
study of the human body, students develop an understanding of who they are, what makes their bodies
work, and what happens when their bodies malfunction. Decision making and responsibility are stressed.
By learning about themselves, students develop an understanding of the effects of their choices and
decisions. Students are directed toward making positive choices and decisions about their bodies through
authentic life activities and assessments.
COURSE GOALS









Locate structures on models as well as on living specimens.
Interrelate concepts and reason critically.
Work cooperatively with other students to improve learning.
Utilize references to answer questions which arise.
Understand complex physiological interactions at the cellular, histological, and gross levels.
Define the anatomic terms used to refer to the body in terms of directions and geometric planes.
Describe the major cavities of the body and the organs they contain.
Recognize terms related to the human body’s anatomy.
Match anatomical terms with the appropriate physiology.
To increase attitudes of:


Interest in learning more about human anatomy and physiology.
Appreciation of the complexity and delicacy of balance within and between the systems of the
body.
To prepare students to:

them. If for some reason a student will have difficulty meeting the due date, it is his or her
responsibility to see me prior to the dead line. I reserve the right to make a ruling for extension at
my discretion.
