To examine Frontol CE, it is not necessary to have a POS-system. The program can be launched on a
personal computer under operation of Windows XP. Microsoft does not include Windows 7 in a list of
supporting OS. But in fact Win CE emulator can be installed and executed in Windows 7 as well.
Emulation of OS Windows CE in OS Windows XP
1. Download Microsoft® Windows® CE 5.0 Device Emulator from an official Microsoft website
or download here from ATOL website.
2. Install downloaded program.
3. Create a shortcut (for example on the desktop). While creating the shortcut, enter launching parameters:
"C:\Program Files\Windows CE 5.0 Emulator\Emulator_500.exe" NK.cem /video 800x600x16
4. Win CE is ready to start now. To launch Win CE, click on the shortcut.
Launching Frontol CE in Windows XP
1. Create a folder on a disc C:\ in OS XP. For example “C:\1”
2. Copy Frontol files to “C:\1”. Distribution files can be found on the CD.
3. Download SQL server designed for WinCE. Files can be downloaded here. Unpack the files to “C:\1”
4. To make XP files accessible in CE, share a folder in CE emulator. Choose Emulator – Folder Sharing…
Indicate a folder. It is “C:\1” in our case.
Now the folder is accessible in Win CE as Storage Card:
Sometimes Storage Card looks like empty, but the data are in the folder in fact. In this case it is necessary
to use Folder Sharing one more time.
5. Copy files in Storage Card. Paste them in the root directory of CE.
6. Before launching Frontol, it is necessary to start SQL server. Execute 3 cab-files for that purpose and
install the program in the default folders.
7. After SQL server starts, you can use Frontol software.
8. Typically a POS-system is used with a special trade keyboard. A personal computer has entirely
different keyboard so keyboard layouts are different. To operate Frontol in a PC use the table below.
Usage of Frontol CE in OS XP is not meant for a large DB. The main goal of Frontol CE emulation is to
have ability of learning Frontol or consulting remote users about settings.
