Using Spanish accents and special characters with Microsoft Word:

When in doubt, look under “Insert” in the menu across the top and then “Symbol” to find the desired letter or punctuation.

Shortcut keys already programmed in Microsoft Word:

For vowels

Press

CTRL

and then

‘ at the same time in that sequence.

Let go and press the desired vowel

For

Press

CTRL then

ALT then

SHIFT

then

1 in that order and all at the same time (do not release any of the keys)

Press

CTRL then

ALT then

SHIFT

/ in that order and all at the same time (do not release any of the keys)

For the ñ

This key may need to be reprogrammed on your computer

Click the “Insert” tab in the menu across the top and then “Symbol”

Click on “More Symbols”

Find the ñ

Select it and then click on

SHORTCUT KEY…

In the box under “Press new shortcut key,” type in the following

Click

CLOSE

Click

CLOSE again

You should now have the same shortcut assigned for ñ as the one used above for the vowels.
