The purpose of the Communications Unit is to support Council in achieving its strategic goals by providing effective communication with its stakeholders and promoting opportunities for community engagement. The Unit is responsible for driving the contemporary direction, innovation, quality and content of all Council’s public relations, marketing, communications and promotional activities including publications, media liaison, advertising, civic events and internet, in line with Council’s communications strategies, policies and procedures. The Unit is also responsible developing and delivering an internal communications strategy that aims to improve communications within and between service areas, develops relationships between staff and management and encourages knowledge sharing across the organisation. Key Responsibility Areas: This position will be responsible for developing all aspects of Council’s online presence and will manage all content and projects related to the corporate website. In addition to writing, editing and proofreading site content, the incumbent will also work closely with the Information Technology team to maintain site standards with regard to new development. This position will also be responsible for producing site promotions, email newsletters and online campaigns. Responsibilities: 1. Create, develop and manage content for Council’s web presence (requires working with content management software) 2. Coordinate web projects across departments 3. Maintain a consistent look and feel throughout all web properties in line with Council’s corporate identity 4. Working with a cross-departmental team, maintain and develop the master content calendar for all web properties 5. Copyedit and proofread all web content 6. Oversee contractors 7. Keep current with emerging web technologies through relevant blogs, list servers, and events 8. Assure web-based information is archived for future needs and reference 9. Several years experience managing content and production for high traffic websites. Strong technical background in addition to the creativity required to develop responsive, interesting original content. Previous experience in website design, maintenance and management. Current Victorian driver’s licence.
