OVERVIEW Great leaders deliver great results. Extensive research has proven that a strengths-based approach to leadership development produces great leaders and accelerates extraordinary business outcomes. Organizations that have an existing competency model can greatly benefit from the powerful strengths-based framework introduced in The Extraordinary Leader Workshop. Zenger Folkman prides itself on our ability to easily operationalize an existing competency model by leveraging our research and extensive database. We accomplish this by following these proven steps: Step One: Review Client’s existing competency model to gain a full understanding and documentation of what has been done. This includes a review of each competency and behavior associated with those competencies. Step Two: Demonstrate synergies between the Extraordinary Leader and Client competency model. We clearly show what aligns with our Extraordinary Leader research items, as well as all the items we have researched in the past and now reside in our database. This step allows us to identify where no match is achieved, and gives direction for further research on what assessment items will be required. Step Three: Build a first draft 360 assessment by utilizing items from our Extraordinary Leader 360 database, our custom item database and Client’s competency descriptions. For unique content in Client’s competencies, we will design unique items. This first draft document contains more items then will be required in the final version of the survey. Step Four: Client selects a steering committee to assist in the selection of the 360 assessment items. Once our first draft document is created we need to select the set of items that will be best for Client. By assembling a committee of 6 to 10 people we can gain consensus on items that will be most effective for Client. Occasionally new items are created or modified by the committee. This selection process is a useful tool at gaining a broader level of commitment to both the competency model and the 360 assessment tool. Step Five: Once the survey is completed it is reviewed and approved by the executive sponsor(s). Step Six: Set-up the survey for administration on our web site. In this process we will skin the web site, customize emails and our feedback reports to fit client requirements. 1550 North Technology Way | Orem, UT 84097 TELEPHONE 801.705.9375 www.zengerfolkman.com Step Seven: Begin the customization process on our Extraordinary Leader Participant Manual. Every aspect of the model will be adjusted to fit the Client Leadership Model and competencies. Customization work will be done on the Competency Companion Development Guide (CCDG). A customized guide will provide non-linear developmental suggestions for all 18 Client Leadership competencies. This will include necessary research and custom development for any competency not aligned with our current database. Step Eight: Conduct a pilot program for the survey and material to gain final approval on the 360 assessment tool and custom CCDG. 1550 North Technology Way | Orem, UT 84097 TELEPHONE 801.705.9375 www.zengerfolkman.com
