Welcome - 21st World Petroleum Congress
On 25-28 June, 2013, in Moscow, the celebration of the 80th Anniversary of the World Petroleum
Council and the 55th anniversary of the Russian National Committee took part. There was one
more significant date: start of the One Year Countdown to the opening of the 21st World
Petroleum Congress, which will be held in Moscow next year.
Celebration of these three important dates was held as a part of «Mioge-2013» exhibition and the 11th
Russian Petroleum and Gas Congress.
Russian National Committee of World Petroleum Council prepared an extensive program of celebration, which
took place on the stand of RNC WPC in the central pavilion of the exhibition, as well as the reception dinner
in honor of these three important dates in the «Volynskoe» Congress Park. Delegation of the World
Petroleum Council, which included the President of the World Petroleum Council, Dr R. Bertani, Director
General Dr. Pierce Riemer, and members of several national committees, came to Moscow to participate in
these events.
On June 25, at the first plenary session, which opened the 11th Russian Petroleum and Gas Congress and was
dedicated to the World Petroleum Council, Dr. Bertani and Director of the RNC WPC V. Kornev made
presentations. The main topic of the session was «Responsibly energising a growing world», which is also the
topic of the 21st World Petroleum Congress. Plenary session was followed by the press conference of World
Petroleum Council, at which head of WPC answered reporters' questions.
On June 26, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the
21st World Petroleum Congress A. Dvorkovich met the WPC delegation. During the meeting they discussed
the process of preparation for the Congress. President of the World Petroleum Council Renato Bertani was
satisfied with the progress of the ongoing work, and wished to see all of Russian oil and gas major
companies, especially large ones, such as "Rosneft" and "Gazprom", among the participants of the Congress
and World Petroleum Exhibition. On the same day, a meeting of the Youth Section of the World Petroleum
Council took place, as well as the "Oil game", which was attended by students, graduates and young
professionals. In the evening at the "Volynskoe" Congress Park a reception dinner in honor of the anniversary
of the World Petroleum Council was held.
On June 27, the Executive Direction of the Organizing Committee of the 21st World Petroleum Congress held
a briefing for the head of the World Petroleum Council and the representatives of the national committees, in
which the comprehensive information on the progress of preparations was given.
On the last day in Moscow delegation of the World Petroleum Council had a tour in the "Metropol" hotel and
together with the Organizing Committee of the 21st WPC decided to select it as a base hotel for the Congress

21 WPC on the EC and CPC meeting in Rio de Janeiro
Members of the Organizing Committee of 21 World Petroleum
Congress took part in the Program Committee meeting, which was
held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 14 -17 april in Hotel Royal Tulip.
Director of Russian National Committee of the World Petroleum
Council Vladimir Kornev made a presentation on the meeting. He
spoke of the Congress preparation process and the main steps,
which have been done in this direction.
21 WPC at TUROGE-2013 in Ankara
Representatives of the 21-st World Petroleum Congress organizing
committee visited Turkish gas and petrochemical industry exhibition
and conference, TUROGE-2013, April 9-10, at the hotel «Sheraton»,
Ankara, as a part of global promo-campaign.
This is an annual big event, which brings together key industry
players and provides an opportunity for regional and international
oil and gas community to share experiences and networking. The
conference was organized by international company ITE, Turkish
Petroleum Corporation, the Turkish Association of Petroleum
Geologists and UCTEA – Chamber of Geophysical Engineers were a
co-organizers.
21st World Petroleum Congress in conjunction with the Turkish Association of Petroleum Geologists presented
their stand. Accompanied by the President of the Turkish Association of Petroleum Geologists Ismail Bakhtiar
the stand was visited by Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yildiz and other guests from the
U.S., Canada, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Poland, Israel, Turkey, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Russia.
Over 150 industry leaders are invited personally
21st WPC Organizing Committee Chairman and Russian Deputy Prime Minister in
charge of Energy, Arkady Dvorkovich, sent a personal letter of invitation to over
150 industry leaders worldwide. This list included the heads of all the largest
national and international oil and gas companies, as well as the most important
service companies. The initiative demonstrates the support of the Russian
Government for the 21st WPC, and encourages all major oil and gas
organisations worldwide to support and participate actively in the most
prestigious event of the industry.
