Kansas State Faculty Member: Shreepad Joglekar received his BFA from Sir J.J. Institute of Applied Arts in Mumbai, India, and his MFA from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. His work comprises of photography, mixed media drawing, and experimental video projections, and has been shown in several galleries in the US, Canada, China, Germany, and the United Kingdom. Exploring natural, cultural, and intellectual environments has been a dominant theme in his work. Young professionals from art / design industry (portfolio required) Age: not more that 30 years as of May 30, 2013 www.mranecdp.in (REGISTER ONLINE) PROGRAM DESCRIPTION CDP 2013 is a hands-on program with a special focus on photography and understanding the principles of visual communication. This program is envisaged such that students from different cultures form teams and collectively explore and address design issues. Students from Kansas State University will participate in this program. Americans students have already registered in this program. During the workshop Indian students will engage in individual as well as group activities in and outside the classroom setting by forming teams with American students. This course is designed to foster a sense of inquiry in the minds of students, while engaging in art and design practices. The idea is to question design decisions and check for effective communication strategies. Indian Students will work in collaboration with faculty and students from America and together we will gain valuable cultural experience. This ‘learning by doing’ program will be augmented with theory in form of lectures & discussions. HOW TO REGISTER? Chunking theory •Explore the relationship between human information processing and design of messages. •Introduction to memory, (STM, LTM), chunking theory and their implications on human information processing. •Designing strategies of and for communication with emphasis on processing of visual information. Gestalt theory •Introduction to visual perception and Gestalt laws of organization. •Understanding and identifying Gestalt laws such as similarity, proximity, good continuation, symmetry, pragnaz and closure •Assignments exploring visual relationships with elements within a limited and constrained space. •Visual relationships to create and break groups further understanding its mapping with content. •Identifying and using laws of organization through practical design tasks. Information theory 31 •Introduction to information theory & its application in relation to spatial and spatio-temporal message design. •Concept of attention in perception. Relationship between message design and attention. •Exploring relationships between the semantics and the structure messages.
