Research Experience
Ph.D Thesis
The title of my PhD thesis is „Discritization of Continuum: Understanding the grids in graphic design and
exploring the intersystemic exchange of grids for innovation.‟
This research is rooted in the area of visual design/ graphic design. The aim of this research is to propose a
platform for systematic exchange of graphic design principles across different time-space-application for innovative
design output/method/process.
Research Projects during Ph.D
1. Contributed to a „Protocol study of Architects in action‟, a research work with Prof. Uday Athavankar which was
resulted in to a publication- „Reaching Out in the Mind's Space‟
2. Carried out a study on Mughal Miniature paintings with Eye Movement Recorder equipment to understand the effect
of grids on viewing patterns.
3. Conducted a survey with a Questionnaire to understand the concept and application of grid in design community.
The response from 140 designers is analysed with SPSS.
Design Projects
Ph.D
1. A series of Devanagari Typefaces are designed as result of an experiment. Fonts such created are aimed for bringing
humanistic attribute to the running text.
2. As a part of Advance Typography, a booklet was designed on the poems of well known Marathi poet- B. S.
Mardhekar.
M.Des
1. Educational Aid for Government schools: This project was an effort to contribute to betterment of the school
education as a designer. This project was aimed at developing an educational aid to motivate underachieving
children. The final output was a proposal of a mix media containing audio video story and jingles, with a printed
book. It is a parallel system which will assist the current classroom education.
2. Films on AIDS awareness: In this project I had made three short films, 6 min. each, based on a social issue AIDS.
Each short film was like a case study of AIDS patient in different situation. These short films was an opportunity for
me to take various responsibilities like writer, script writer, director, cinematographer, art director, production
manager, editor, animator, sound engineer, etc.
3. Folk culture of Maharashtra- an overview: This was a short research based project carried out in collaboration
with Sheetal Gokhale. The project was aimed at the documentation of different literary and visual artforms, both
static and dynamic, from the folk culture of Maharashtra. It included folk stories, folk songs, folk rituals like
Gondhal, folk performances like Powada, etc.
