Spring 2010 Chinese Music Concert
Tour
Collaborating with more than 10 Confucius Institutes and schools in the US, the
Confucius Institute at Valparaiso University is sponsoring the Spring 2010 Chinese
Music Concert Tour featuring 4 guest soloists from China and the Chamber
Concert Band conducted by VU’s Band Director Dr. Jeff Doebler. The program for
the Concert Tour includes band arrangements of famous Chinese tunes as well as
classics of American band music.
It is our belief at the Confucius Institute at Valparaiso University that music is one
of the most valuable tools in growing mutual understanding and respect among
the nations and for fostering a deep appreciation of Chinese culture and language.
Our approach is rooted in Confucian philosophy, in the belief that “Harmony is the
most valuable of all things” and “Nothing is more effective than music in bringing
harmony.” We look forward to advancing this perspective through our collaboration
with our colleagues and music lovers in US, China and around the world.
