Information for Oakland Center Faculty Fall 2013 THINGS TO DO BEFORE THE SEMESTER BEGINS Apply for access to staff/faculty door. Free, dedicated faculty and staff parking is located on the west side of the building. In order to access the building from the west door you must complete a two-step process: 1. Submit an Access Card Authorization form. This form must be completed each semester you teach at the Oakland Center. The form is available at oaklandcenter.wayne.edu, or at the Oakland Center main office. Submit the completed form via email to oaklandcenter@wayne.edu, fax to (248) 553-7733, or drop off at the Oakland Center main office. 2. Get your WSU OneCard encoded by the WSU Police Department at 6050 Cass Ave., Detroit, MI 48202 weekdays between 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. The process is quick and free of charge. If you already have a 4-digit swipe code for another department at WSU, you do not have to have your card coded again – the code should also work at the Oakland Center. Alternatively, you can drop off your OneCard at the Oakland Center main office and we will have your card encoded for you. This service is available for a limited time: cards dropped off between August 28 – September 3 will be ready for pickup the evening of September 4; cards dropped off between September 4 - September 9 will be ready for pickup the evening of September 10. Don’t have a OneCard? Stop by the main office and we can order one for you. If you plan to enter the building from the main doors, you do not have to complete these steps. Order audio-visual equipment. To order audio/visual equipment or request training on equipment, please visit http://www.lib.wayne.edu/services/classroom/. You can submit a semester-long order or chose specific dates. Available equipment includes: multi-media carts (with computers and projectors), projectors, document cameras, DVD/VCR players, internet connections, cassette players and more. We regret that students cannot request or pick up audio/visual equipment for you. You will need your room number to place an online order. If you are not sure of your room assignment, please contact the Oakland Center main office at (248) 553-3545. We will make every attempt to fulfill your request, but we cannot guarantee availability of equipment with less than 72 hours’ notice. Order specialized software. Disruptive or Distressed Student Behavior: If you encounter a student in a crisis situation, please call 911 and notify the Oakland Center main office immediately. If the student is not in crisis but is showing signs of disruptive or distressed behavior, intervene sooner rather than later by submitting a Care Report to the Dean of Students Office (DOSO) online at doso.wayne.edu/student-conduct/suit. While many students seek help on their own, your interaction with students increases the likelihood that you will identify signs or behaviors of disruption or distress. For more information, read DOSO’s “Guide to Dealing with Disruptive and Distressed Individuals” at doso.wayne.edu/student-conduct/PDF-Documents/WSU_Faculty-and-Staff-Resource-Guide.pdf.
