RSCCD Publications is the college district’s internal print shop, serving faculty and staff districtwide. We offer a wide range of print services solutions from our centrally located shop at the
Orange Education Center.
In 2011, District Publications completed a total of 7,159,845 printing impressions, including color and black and white (b & w) printing. These included flyers, posters, postcards, business cards, NCR
(carbonless) forms, brochures, booklets, exams and other instructional materials.
Customers are charged for color printing; however, the cost of b & w printing to meet campus and district needs is included in Publications’ budget. Here are our production results for 2011, including how many copies were printed and the volume of paper used per location:

I’ve got a rush job. How quickly can I get it printed?
Our normal turnaround time for black and white printing is 48 hours if you turn your job in via WebCRD. If you mail it, you need to add an additional day. That said you may receive your work sooner, but we need to account for equipment breakdown and delivery schedules. For color print jobs, please allow about five to seven days depending on the complexity of the job.
Why can’t I submit my printing jobs in a Word document via WebCRD?
Unfortunately, to ensure that your document gets printed and appears as you see it in your Word document, you must submit your work in PDF format. It is even better if you utilize RSCCD_SurePDF as it was designed for use with our printing software. This is especially critical with science or math documents.
Why do I need to enter my Datatel number each time I submit a print job through WebCRD?
Actually, if you complete a user profile page that includes all of your personal information, including name, location, district e-mail, work phone number, mobile phone number, your department/division Datatel number that ends in
-5940, you won’t need to. Once saved, all of this information will be referenced the next time you log in. It’s no different from setting up your personal account on amazon.com.
Why didn’t I get my print job delivered on time?
Please bear in mind the turnaround times mentioned in the first question. If you submit work on a Friday afternoon, it is not possible for us to get it to you on Monday morning. We do our best to meet all deadlines. Nevertheless, sometimes equipment malfunction or human error gets in the way. Please call us if your print job has not shown up on your campus when you think it should have.
What is the default printing format?
To save paper and costs, we always print two-side unless there is a special need for one-sided printing.
Why can’t I request printing on any color paper that I might want?
Due to the constraints of our shop—size and budget—we are unable to stock a vast array of paper choices like a commercial printer. We keep it simple and stock the most commonly requested and needed paper selections. We stock pastel colors only—pink, blue, ivory, green, and yellow. Because of the cost of color paper, we are only able to print the top sheet of each item you submit in color. However, if you have a special need for a specific color or quality of paper, we can work with you. We will obtain what you need and charge your department/division for the special order.
What name and password do I use on WebCRD?
Use the same name and password that you regularly use to log in to your
RSCCD desktop.
What hours is RSCCD Publications open?
RSCCD Publications, located at OEC, is open 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 7:00 a.m. to 12 noon on Fridays. We are closed on weekends and RSCCD holidays, including winter and spring breaks.
How many copies a day can I print through RSCCD Publications?
Within reason, there is no limitation to the number of copies that can be requested through RSCCD Publications. We are operated separately from the duplication centers available at each campus and educational center. Our equipment can run your jobs more economically saving money district-wide.
Can I submit more than one document for printing at a time or do I need to keep logging back in to WebCRD?
Yes, it is possible to submit more than one document at once. However, we recommend submitting each job separately to ensure clarity of instructions for each document.
How can I cancel an order once I have submitted it through WebCRD?
You must communicate with the Publications staff as quickly as possible to cancel a print job. Please call (714) 628-5955 and leave a voicemail right away.
We’ll pick up your voicemail and the reprographic technician will manually delete your job from the printing queue. Only on-site administrators can perform this task.
How long can I archive my documents on WebCRD?
WebCRD can archive your documents for 10 years. The default archival period is one month, but you can indicate your preference for longer when you upload your document.
How can I know when my print jobs, submitted through RSCCD
Publications at OEC, have been delivered to my campus?
WebCRD will send you an automatic notice when your job is received and later when it is completed by Publications. To get these notifications, you must request them when filling out your profile. Completed print jobs are delivered to the following locations for your pick up: Santa Ana College—Quick Copy,
Santiago Canyon College—Publications, Orange Education Center—Resource
Center, and Centennial Education—Publications (F Building). When in doubt about your job, contact Publications at (714) 628-5955.
What does sustainability have to do with an in-house printing operation like District Publications? With the wide choices of paper available for the most basic of printing jobs, there is much to consider. As such, the
Publications team continues to review the available options while balancing our choices with our diminished fiscal resources.
This fall, we conducted a paper audit reviewing what we were currently purchasing, researching the paper options available through our vendors, and determining any changes we might make.
With paper, green options include:
• Recycled—Papers are produced from post-consumer waste and may range from 10 percent recycled content up to 100 percent recycled content. In general, the higher recycled content, the higher the price.
• FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) Certified—Papers bearing this seal are produced with wood harvested under strict standards developed by a full range of forest stakeholders, including the community, indigenous peoples, forest products companies and environmental groups. These sustainable forestry management standards are enforced by internationally-recognized third parties and in general the guidelines cover many areas of environmental protection.
• SFI (Sustainable Forestry Initiative) Certified--Papers bearing this seal are made with wood harvested under standards developed by the forest industry. Well-managed, FSC certified forests help protect plant species and wildlife.
Our paper audit revealed the following sustainable paper choices in current use:
• SFI-certified 20-pound bond paper is currently our most widely used for most black and white printing.
• Our color paper stock available in a range of pastels is 30 percent recycled.
• Based on purchasing decisions reached last year, much of the remaining paper in our shop is FSCcertified. This includes 60-pound opaque, 110-pound index, 32-pound paper, and more.
Based on new paper options presented to us this year, we opted to purchase a different carbonless paper used to produce forms district-wide. This new paper utilizes naturally-based, organic solvents in its carbonless capsule that creates less impact on the environment. In the future, we hope to incorporate additional sustainable choices in our paper purchases.
Since we went live with the new and improved WebCRD, the online Publications submission system for black and white printing, more people across the district have embraced the new technology. It just makes sense.
• RSCCD Publications gets your work quicker—no need to wait for mail delivery.
• You have peace of mind because your work is formatted correctly and securely using RSCCD_SurePDF.
• You can submit your print job from home or another remote location. You don’t have to be on campus.
• Your finished job will include higher quality halftones.
• When you get your confirming email, you are reassured knowing that your work has been received by
Publications and not in transit or even possibly lost.
• You have the added convenience of archiving your documents for future reprints.
• The finished job gets to you more quickly.
To date, 439 RSCCD employees have enrolled at https://webcrd.rsccd.edu/. If you haven’t taken the time to enroll yet, we suggest the following:
• Take the time to review our online tutorial. It will answer most of your questions.
• Completely fill out your personal profile and include your district email, your office and mobile phone numbers, your site, and your department’s Datatel number for printing that ends in -5940. Your contact information allows staff to quickly and easily clarify situations that might otherwise interfere with the timely return of your work. You only need to fill in your profile once!
“It is easy. It is manageable. It is excellent,” said one happy WebCRD customer.
If you have any challenges enrolling in WebCRD or submitting your print jobs online, please contact
Reprographic Technicians Albert Flores, Mark Hutchison or Ann Odle at (714) 628-5955. We’ll be happy to assist you over the phone or make an appointment to see you in your office for a hands-on demonstration.

In an effort to continually improve the effectiveness and efficiency of our printing services, we instituted a customer survey last year.
We are grateful to the 265 faculty and staff who took the time to tell us how we performed. Your constructive feedback has helped us streamline our services to better meet your needs.
A sampling of results from the 2011-2012 Customer Survey:
• 78.5% of respondents rated our customer service superior and 18.5% rated our customer service satisfactory.
• 74.5% respondents rated the quality of our print services as superior and 23.9% rated the quality of print services as satisfactory.
• Of those who use the WebCRD system, 59% rated it superior and 34.3% rated it satisfactory.
• Of those who had concerns that required resolution, 61.3% described the process as superior and 33.3% rated the process as satisfactory.
• 75.7% of respondents strongly agreed and 17.9% agreed that their printing needs were handled very quickly.
We were pleased with the following comments:
“Printing is consistently handled in a timely manner.”
“They have been very accommodating of our sometimes short notice for copies and I appreciate it very much.”
“I placed my order online and it was a very smooth process. Quick turnaround.”
Thanks again for taking the time to respond and hope you will continue to tell us how we are doing in 2012-2013. If you have any concerns or questions, feel free to contact Publications
