Title Author The Lottery Rose Irene Hunt Reviewer Genre Rating Realistic Fiction 9 Novel Review: How would it feel if you were abused all your life by your mother and her boyfriend and then sent to an all boys’ school where you don’t know anybody? This is what Georgie Burgess; the main character in The Lottery Rose has to deal with. Read this book and get into Irene Hunts The Lottery Rose. The main character in this book is a 7-year-old boy named Georgie Burgess. He has lived with his mom and her boyfriend Steve for awhile. Every day that Steve is over their house he abuses Georgie. One day Georgie won a rose bush in a market and he was very happy so he took it home. When he got home Steve was there and he hurt Georgie really badly. Fortunately the neighbors heard and called the police. Then, Georgie was taken to an all boys’ school where he could be safe, but he didn’t know anybody. At the all boys school Georgie meets a lot of new people. He also learns to forgive and forget because he wanted to plant his rose in Mrs. Harpers garden but she wouldn’t let him so he forgave her and forgot about it. I think Georgie changed throughout the story because at first he was a depressed little boy and at the end of the story he becomes happy and joyful. The Lottery Rose is classified as one of the best books I have every read. It is filled with all different type of moods like upsetting and unfortunate to joyful and touching. I think the Author Irene Hunt is very talented and I hope that she keeps writing more of these types of stories.
