ESCRIPTION

Key aspects relating to registration are described below.
1. The service accepts personal computing equipment in the following categories - PCs and Apple Macintosh . All impact, inkjet and laser printers, plotters for paper size A3 - A4 and flat bed scanners up to A3 are accepted. If in doubt as to whether your equipment complies, please contact the Computer Hardware Breakdown Help-line ( see overleaf ).
2. The annual fee per item of equipment is dependent on the type of equipment to be maintained. No further payments are required following the breakdown and subsequent repair of a registered item of equipment. A schedule of fees is available from the Web address above.

EGISTER
1. Equipment must be in full working order at the time of registration.
2. Complete and sign the registration form. A printable version is available from the Web address referred to above. Note: an incomplete form may prevent registration.
3. Take the completed form to the OUCS Shop where it will be validated. Payment must be made at the Shop by cash or personal cheque made payable to Oxford University Computing Services or debit/credit card.
Retain this page as a useful summary of the service and a reference for how to call out the engineer.
4. The registration will be effective after 2 working days from receipt of the application form, if correctly completed. An acknowledgement will be sent by email in due course which will include a registration number. Please keep a record of this number as it will be required if the breakdown service is ever used for the registered equipment.
5. Registrations run from 1st December to 30th November of the following year. When registering part way through the year, the fee is reduced pro-rata by the amount of the year which has passed.

Standard Specification.
The basic fee for PC or Apple Macintosh computers covers the following specification:
Maximum RAM size: 2GB
Maximum Hard Disk Capacity: 250 Gigabyte. For multiple hard drives, cost is based on the sum total capacity of all drives.
Maximum Monitor size: 19" CRT or TFT
Graphics card (the standard specification for the model)
Keyboard and Mouse, Internal Floppy
Internal non-PC-Card Network card, internal non-PC-Card modem, Internal CD-ROM and DVD-ROM drive
A specification beyond this may incur an extra fee; please consult the full service description referred to above if this is the case.
Internal peripherals outside those listed above are not covered as standard. However, they may still be registered on the scheme, usually for an extra fee. For this reason it is important to fully specify all internal peripherals when the equipment is registered.
They should be entered on the form in the internal peripherals column, with manufacturer, model name and any relevant specifications (e.g. capacity). Internal peripherals include: for PCs, an extra hard disk, an internal DAT drive, or a high-specification graphics card, SCSI card or sound system; for printers, a duplexing unit or large input bin.

External peripherals must be registered in their own right. Examples of external peripherals include scanners, external hard drives, and USB CD-RW drives.
Special note on PCMCIA/PC cards . These are credit-card sized cards that typically plug into laptops. They are not covered as standard, nor are they internal peripherals. Each card must be registered in its own right, and will be charged for at their standard rate. Single-function ethernet or modem cards will be charged for at a reduced rate. Please note that many PCMCIA cards are covered by lifetime warranties from the manufacturer, and are therefore in any case ineligible for the scheme.

SE THE
ERVICE
The service is invoked as follows:
1. The preferred mechanism for invoking the service is to use the internet to access a web form through which all the necessary details can be entered. Through this route, there is no waiting, immediate acknowledgement and a call tracking facility.

and follow the instructions provided. The contract number
( 10 77777 ) and the registration number of the equipment at fault (provided by OUCS in response to this registration) must be provided.
2. If there is no access to the above web site, you can email a fault description, along with the registration number and serial number of the faulty equipment, to service@equinox.co.uk
3. Finally, as there can be situations when you have no access to the network (possibly as a result of the fault that you wish to report), a last resort is to report the fault by telephone as follows (response via this route may be slower):
Call the telephone number 01684 290101 to access the call control service which accepts calls between 9.00am and 5.00pm
Monday to Friday excluding bank holidays. Outside of these hours, call details can be faxed to 01684 273000; the fax must provide the details specified below. i The contract number for this breakdown service. i The registration number issued by OUCS for the equipment concerned. i A contact name, telephone number, address of location of equipment, make, model and serial number of equipment and a brief description of the fault.
C USTOMER R ESPONSIBILITIES : z It is your responsibility to provide the engineer with reasonable access to the equipment. z You are expected to have the basic operating system CDs and floppy disks available, such as Windows or Mac OS installation disks, and appropriate consumables such as floppy disks or paper. The engineer may not be able to fully complete the repair if such items are not available. z The customer must be available to sign the engineer’s field service report when the visit is completed.
I MPORTANT :
1. It is your responsibility to ensure that any important data is securely backed up to protect against possible loss. The repair service cannot be held responsible for loss of data which might occur as a consequence of repair work being carried out.
2. It is your responsibility to protect the confidentiality of your data, if that is important.
3. This repair service does not retrieve data from damaged hard drives. The Help Desk service at OUCS may be able to assist with such matters.
NNUAL
ENEWAL OF
EGISTRATION
Renewal notices will be sent out during October each year. When payment is received, your equipment will be re-registered for a further 12 months. If payment is not received before the current registration has expired then your equipment will be without breakdown cover immediately after the expiry date of the registration.
