Cell city Analogy Criteria Name: ______________________ Date: ______________________ Create a picture of what you are comparing your cell to. This is NOT a picture of a cell but of a house, amusement park, car, etc. The picture can be drawn by hand or created on the computer. Include the organelles listed on your graphic organizer. Include a key that tell which organelle compares to which part of your analogy. Include your graphic organizer. Include a chart with the function of each part of your analogy, and why it is like the organelle. The function of the analogy part should match the ‘real’ function of the organelle. The chart and graphic organizer should be stapled to your picture. If your analogy is that of an animal cell, include the following: o o o o o Nucleus Mitochondria Cell membrane Lysosome Vacuole o o o o Ribosomes Endoplasmic reticulum Golgi body Cytoplasm If your analogy is that of a plant cell, include the following: o o o o o Nucleus Mitochondria Cell membrane Lysosome Vacuole (large) o o o o o Self-assessment: o I have created a picture o I have included all organelles necessary o I have a key explaining the comparison of organelle to part of analogy o I have included a chart with the function of each part o Functions of parts of analogy makes sense with function of cell organelles o I have stapled Chart and Graphic organelle sheet to my picture. o I have looked at teacher’s rubric to give myself my grade. Ribosomes Endoplasmic reticulum Golgi body Cytoplasm Chloroplasts Partner assessment: o Two things my partner did well are: 1. 2. o One thing they can improve on: 1. Rubric for cell city analogy Student self-assessment 4 Visual representation has enough detail showing understanding of how the analogy relates to cell and its organelles. 3 Visual representation has enough detail but one example shows lack of understanding of how the analogy relates to cell and its organelles. All organelles have been included, Key, Chart and Cell Organelles Graphic Organizer are all present. One piece of information is missing from either the organelles, Key, Chart and Cell Organelles Graphic Organizer. All of the functions of analogy parts makes sense with function of cell organelles. Analogies indicate students understanding. 12 Total = One of the functions of analogy parts may not make sense with function of cell organelles. All but one analogy indicate students understanding. 2 Visual representation has a few missing details and/or examples shows some lack of understanding of how the analogy relates to cell and its organelles. One to two pieces of information are missing from either the organelles, Key, Chart and Cell Organelles Graphic Organizer. One to two of the functions of analogy parts may not make sense with function of cell organelles. These two analogies indicate student has some misunderstanding. 1 Visual representation has many missing details and/or many examples show lack of understanding of how the analogy relates to cell and its organelles. More than two pieces of information are missing from either the organelles, Key, Chart and Cell Organelles Graphic Organizer. Two to thee of the functions of analogy parts may not make sense with functions of cell organelles. These two to three analogies indicate student has some misunderstanding. 9 6 4 /12 How I can improve: __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________________________ Teacher assessment 4 Visual representation has enough detail indicating understanding of how the analogy relates to cell and its organelles. 3 Visual representation has enough detail but one example indicates lack of understanding of how the analogy relates to cell and its organelles.
