The Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) at NPSS involves students completing a package of 9 courses that meets the needs of all students with an interest in developing the skills necessary for a career in Business. The Business Industry acknowledges and supports the program through certification and appropriate industry cooperative learning placements. The SHSM program includes the following criteria: 1. Complete a bundle of 9 specific courses (see chart below); 2. Complete Sector Certifications and/or training programs; 3. Participate in experiential learning and career exploration activities within the sector (e.g. co-op work experience, job shadowing, job twinning); 4. Learn and document the industry Essential Skills and work habits using the Ontario Skills Passport; 5. Gain “Reach Ahead” experience connected to the student’s post-secondary plans.
