MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE
DIRECTOR
The Sunlodge hotel was filled with the
Spirit of God on Saturday 3rd August 2013
when
Christians
from
various
denominations met to pray to God for a
fresh touch of His love. This was a Salt
and Light Ministries’ event dubbed “Prayer
Rally 2013” under the theme “Will you
not revive us again, that your people may
rejoice in you”? (Psalm 85:6).
Dr. Joyce R. Aryee (Executive Director,
SALM)
It is a wonderful opportunity to keep in
touch with you so that together we can
build one another up in our Most Holy
faith – Jude 20 and spur one another on
to God’s works – Hebrews 10:24.
The theme was chosen to reflect the need
for Christians to ask God to revive their
spiritual lives to be able to serve Him and
make a difference in their generation.
Prayers were offered in three sessions and
each session was led by a resource person.
First Session
Enjoy it and let us hear from you
especially about how frequently you want
to hear from us and what other subjects
you would like us to write on.
SALM HOLDS PRAYER RALLY
Dr. Joyce Aryee in the Spirit
Dr. Joyce R. Aryee, Executive Director of
the Salt and Light Ministries, led
participants pray for a fresh anointing and
renewal of themselves as individual
Christians in the first session of the
programme using Psalm 85:6 “Will you
not revive us again, that your people may
rejoice in you” and “Hosea 6:1-3 “Come;
let us return to the LORD. He has torn us
to pieces but he will heal us; he has
injured us but he will bind up our
wounds. After two days he will revive us;
on the third day he will restore us that we
may live in his presence. Let us
acknowledge the LORD; let us press on to
acknowledge him. As surely as the sun
rises, he will appear; he will come to us
like the winter rains, like the spring rains
that water the earth”.
The reason for personal revival was to
enable us to repent of our sins and be
restored and renewed as His children so
that;

God will be real to

Jesus Christ will be real

The Holy Spirit will be real

The word of God will be real.
Then we would live free of sin, strong in
righteousness and be able to intercede for
others particularly the church and the
nation.
Second Session
Mr. Farchie leading participants to pray
for Restoration and Healing for Ghana
Mr. Michael Faarchie, a retired accountant
and a Board member of the Salt and Light
Ministries, also led the second session to
pray for restoration and healing for Ghana
using 2nd Chronicle 7:13- 14. –
“when I shut up the heaven so that there
is no rain, or command locusts to devour
the land or send a plaque among my
people, if my people, who are called by
my name, will humble themselves and
pray and seek my face and turn from their
wicked ways, then I will hear from
heaven, and I will forgive their sin and
will healthier land”.
He Compared the kind of difficulties the
land of Israel passed through as well God’s
remedy for restoration and healing and
mentioned that it was no different from
the situation in Ghana. With the help of
participants, he named some evil activities
going on in the country which require
God’s intervention such as
a. economic difficulties,
b. mounting corruption in high and
low places,
c. too much lying,
d. greed and selfishness
e. seeing wrong as right and right as
wrong
f. devastating fires –
g. carnage on our roads;
h. injustice
Mr. Faarchie identified four steps that
God expects Christians and Ghanaians in
particular to take in order to have full
restoration;

Humility of the people of God,

Sustained prayer of the people of
God seeking forgiveness

Demonstration of repentance of
the people of God by seeking the
face of God and

Determined desire to turn away
from sin unto God, thus turning
away from wicked ways.

He assured the participants that God is
always willing to forgive everybody’s sin
only if they would heed His instructions
above.
He led participants to offer prayers for the
three Arms of Government and the
Security Agencies.

Third Session

Mr. Francis Osei charging
participants up for prayers for the
Church
During the third session Mr. Francis Osei
of
CBN
Worldreach
Ghana
led
participants to pray for healing for the
church using Isaiah 5:1-7 and Revelation 2
and 3 . Isaiah 5:1-7 portrays a farmer's
great investment in a crop he purposely
cultivated and the disappointing yield at
the time of harvest. The lessons drawn
from the passage that are parallel to the
Lord's message to the Churches are in Rev.
2 and 3 including the following;

God has a purpose for His Church
(and for each individual Christian)


and expects us to have a positive
impact on society.
The Holy Spirit's supernatural
empowerment
helps
us
to
accomplish God’s purpose.
He
gives us His unique nature and
strength.
We are therefore,
supposed to function as the Salt on
the earth and the Light of the
world.
God's mandate to us (the Church)
demands our positive actions. That
is, we are supposed TO DO
righteous acts that are an overflow
of our new BEING and that the
emphasis is not on "DON’TS" but
DOS. In Rev. 2:4-5, the Lord says
we have forsaken our first love to
and commands us repent and do
the things we did at first.
Failure of the Church in fulfilling
her positive (noble) mission is bad
enough –instead of fulfilling our
mission, we rather join the devil in
fulfilling his evil agenda which is a
mind-boggling rebellious act which
is as provocative as the sins of
witchcraft and idolatry - I Sam.
15:23.
Thus, such irreverent, provocative
acts by the Church invite God's
judgment which usually comes in
the
form
of
very
painful
disciplinary "spanking" - Isaiah 5:56, 20-21.
God's gracious offer is for the
Church to repent and be restored
to her lofty position. We are to
- turn away from wrong doing
(from participating in Satan's
agenda); and
- obey God's commission and get
back to the point where His Light
will shine again
Mr. Osei also cautioned Christians against
Satan’s diabolic agenda such as:
Satan’s Agenda
a. Confusion - Matt. 4:3: The devil
tries to attack the Church's sense of
identity and godly ethic by attempting
to trivialize the Word of God. In his
attempt on Jesus Christ (Head of the
Church), Satan tried to get Jesus to
operate on the premise of "Seeing is
believing" instead of "Believing is
seeing".
b. Carnality – 1 Cor. 3:1-3: The
enemy's attack is on the Church's
oneness. Satan sows seeds of pride and
competition in order to weaken the
Church's strength.
c. Cowardice - Matt. 4:8-9: The devil
seeks to produce insecurity and
discouragement
by
threatening
believers with poverty, disease or
death. Compromise is therefore a
necessary by-product of cowardice.
What Satan offers the Church is "a god
of convenience and rapid results".
d. COMPLACENCY - Jer. 48:10: The
devil tries to kill the Church's zeal for
fulfilling God's Great Commission by
shrinking the vision of her members especially the human leadership - to
respective local environments or
denominations. He tells the leaders:
"You are better than many ... you have
99 of the 100 sheep in safe keeping ...
why bother yourself with more work?"
The Church must have a godly
jealously that is hinged on the
understanding that even one dissenter
can cause significant disaffection for
the King in a Kingdom.
e. Conning - Matt. 4:5-6: The devil
aims at attacking God's glory by luring
prominent Christians to USE God for
the attainment of fame and fortune.
By so doing, the well-known Church
leader or gifted believer begins to treat
God as HIS shepherd-boy instead of
Him being his/her SHEPHERD.
God’s Agenda
He stressed that the Churches’ attention
and focus should be on
1. “Making disciples of all nations” –
Matt 28:19
2. Raising labourers - selfless workers
who are filled with the Holy Spirit
and are therefore “not ashamed of
the Gospel”- Rom. 1:16.
3. “Praying to the Lord of the harvest
for more labourers” - Matt 9:38
Prayer format
Each prayer session was interspersed with
melodic hymns and some local choral
music The participants to could sense the
presence of the heavenly choir as the the

Sharing the grace before departure
appear at this time, may I suggest that
whatever agitations seem to be going on
in the nation are not really about
politics, but an undercurrent to stir the
body of Christ back to its original
mission. The church in Ghana is
gradually becoming comfortable with
‘having church’ and forgetting the church
was created for a reason.
I thus urge all partners to constantly be
visiting http://www.saltandlightgh.org/ f
or when the next prayer rally will come
off.
God bless you and cause His face to
shine upon you.
TESTIMONY FROM A PARTICIPANT
I also wish to touch on a prayer rally
organized by Salt & Light Ministries
(SALM) under the auspices of its
Executive Director, Dr. Joyce Aryee.
The theme for the rally was REVIVE
chosen from Psalm 85:6. I believe this is
one of the most divinely strategic prayer
rallies at this moment and for such a
time as this. May I submit to fellow
believers that the key to preventing war
in Ghana is not so much praying against
war (good as they may be), but 'revival'.
During the prayer rally, there were
intense sessions of repentance for self,
the church and the nation, with a call on
God to heal our land. Again there was a
call from God for the church to return to
the roots of evangelism and winning the
lost for Christ. And as unlikely as it may
FROM SALM’S WEEKLY DEVOTIONAL
(PRAYER IN THE FATHER’S HOUSE)
“… they found Him in the temple…And
He said to them, ‘… Did you not know
that I must be about My Father’s
business?’” – Luke 2:46,49.
Our
Lord’s
childhood
was
not
immaturity waiting to grow into
manhood- His childhood is an eternal
fact. Am I a holy, innocent child of God
as a result of my identification with my
Lord and Savior? Do I look at my life as
being in my Father’s house? Is the Son
of God living in His Father’s house
within me?
The only abiding reality is God Himself,
and His order comes to me moment by
moment. Am I continually in touch with
the reality of God, or do I pray only
when things have gone wrong – when
there is some disturbance in my life? I
must learn to identify myself closely with
my Lord in ways of holy fellowship and
oneness that some of us have not yet
even begun to learn. “… I must be
about My Father’s business” – and I must
learn to live every moment of my life in
my Father’s house.
Think about your own circumstances.
Are you so closely identified with the
Lord’s life that you are simply a child of
God, continually talking to Him and
realizing that everything comes from His
hands? Is the grace of His ministering life
being worked out through you in your
home, your business, and your circle of
friends? Have you been wondering why
you
are
going
through
certain
circumstances? In fact, it is not that you
have to .go through them. It is because
of your relationship with the Son of God
who comes, through the providential
will of His Father, into your life. You
must allow Him to have His way with
you, staying in perfect oneness with
Him.
The life of your Lord is to become your
vital, simple life, and the way He
worked and lived among people while
here on earth must be the way He works
and lives in you
Newspaper Articles (THE PEACEMAKER
PART I)
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they
will be called sons of God” - Mathew 5:
9
All Christians are called to be
peacemakers. Indeed, in the Beatitudes
(the attitudes required of us) as
Christians, the Lord Jesus says that those
who are truly happy (blessed) are
Peacemakers and that they are the ones
who will be called the sons (and
daughters) of God – Matthew 5:9.
During
this
period
of
national
apprehension and unease while we
await the verdict of the Supreme Court
on the Election Petition, the call for
prayer should go hand in hand with the
call for Christians to be the Peacemakers
we are meant to be. We therefore,
present again, this article on “The
Peacemaker” which we published in
August 2012. We have however, turned
it around, starting first with the
characteristics of a Peacemaker and
continuing
with
some
Bible
commentaries.
As you read and meditate on what the
Lord Jesus wants us to be, pledge
yourself to be a Peacemaker.
Be
someone who will continue to strive to
prevent contention, strife, and war; as
one who will use his/her influence to
reconcile opposing parties, and to
prevent lawsuits and hostilities in families
and neighbourhoods. Everybody must
do something of this; and the one who
does becomes more like God.
We
should not practice any unlawful
officious interference in things which are
none of our business. However, without
any danger of acquiring the character of
a “busybody” each one of us has many
opportunities of reconciling opposing
parties. Friends, neighbours, people of
influence,
lawyers,
politicians,
physicians, ministers of the gospel can all
do much to promote peace. We should
do this right at the beginning. "The
beginning of strife," says Solomon, "is like
the letting out of water" – Proverbs
17:14. An English proverb also says “An
ounce of prevention is worth a pound of
cure." It is obvious that long and deadly
quarrels might often be prevented by a
little interference in the beginning.
PORTRAIT OF A PEACE MAKER
 A peacemaker must be willing to
practice the principles and skills
needed to settle disputes and
maintain peace - Phil. 4:9. God
can use a complete novice to help
others settle conflicts, so we
should not wait until we are
experts before we offer ourselves
to Him as peacemakers. At the
same time, God delights to see
His
people
cultivate
their
understanding, gifts, and talents
through "constant use" - Heb. 5:14
so
that
we
can
become
increasingly effective in serving
him.
 A peacemaker must be a person
who "thinks right." The "God of
peace" is with the man who thinks
on "whatever is true, whatever is
noble, whatever is right, whatever
is pure, whatever is lovely,
whatever is admirable, etc." - Phil.
4:8. This does not mean that the
peacemaker is naive or gullible,
but rather that he sees the whole
picture.
Remember,
the
counterfeit
is
more
easily
recognized
when
one
is
thoroughly familiar with the
genuine.
 Peacemakers must be willing to be
vulnerable - Psalm 22. The
greatest peacemaker of all, Jesus
Christ, made Himself vulnerable
not only to death, but also to the
most
cruel,
dehumanizing,
hideous, and insane method of
execution man has ever devised.
Psalm 22:6-18 vividly describes
the price that Jesus paid for man's
reconciliation to God. Although
we will never be called to such an
act of atonement, we are called
to be imitators of Christ. To do
this we must appropriate the
submissive
attitude
Jesus
exemplified - Phil. 2:3-7, “Do
nothing out of selfish ambition or
vain conceit, but in humility
consider others better than
yourselves. Each of you should
look not only to your own
interests, but also to the interests
of others. Your attitude should be
the same as that of Christ Jesus.
Who, being in very nature God,
did not consider equality with
God something to be grasped, but
made Himself nothing, taking the
very nature of a servant, being
made in human likeness,” and
such submission will make us
vulnerable
 A peacemaker must be wise, that
is, able to respond to life God's
way. When Paul learned of the
conflicts within the church at
Corinth, he lamented, "Is it
possible that there is nobody
among you wise enough to judge
a dispute between believers?" - 1
Cor. 6:5. James likewise notes the
crucial link between wisdom,
peacemaking, and the other
character qualities mentioned
above: But the wisdom that
comes from heaven is first of all
pure;
then
peace-loving,
considerate, submissive, full of
mercy and good fruit, impartial
and sincere. Peacemakers who
sow in peace raise a harvest of
righteousness" - James 3:17-18.Any
honest person will quickly realize
that he does not possess all of
these
qualities
in
a
fully
developed form. But that should
not discourage us from serving the
Lord as peacemakers, for God
promises to equip us for the tasks
he sets before us. 1 Thessalonians
5:23-24 says, "Now may God
Himself, the God of peace,
sanctify you through and through.
May your whole spirit, soul and
body be kept blameless at the
coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The One who calls you is faithful
and He will do it."
 A peacemaker must be a person
of prayer. Philippians 4:6-7 speaks
of the "peace of God which
transcends all understanding...."
That peace is a result of a healthy
prayer life. Moreover, it is
through prayer that we learn to
discern God's will and align
ourselves with it.
 A peacemaker must also love the
Word - Eph. 6:15. His feet are
shod "with the readiness that
comes from the gospel of peace"
Eph. 6:15. The statement "The
Spirit of God uses the Word of
God in the man of God" reveals
God's way of protecting His Word
from becoming misused. Effective
peacemakers must be diligent
students of His Word.
 A peacemaker must develop
several other vital characteristics
that are essential for Christian
service. He must desire to serve 1 Tim. 3:1. He will not be
effective if he enters into this
work reluctantly or half-heartedly.
This is not to say that he should
enjoy meddling in others' problems,
nor does it mean that a peacemaker
will never prefer not to become
involved. But when the need is
clearly before him, out of love for
Christ, he will respond to it
wholeheartedly - John 12:24-26.
Max Lucado says “Conflict is inevitable, but
combat is optional. Use your God-given
creative energy to solve conflict before it
escalates into combat.
Perhaps the seeds you sow in your areas of
conflict won’t reach maturity tomorrow,
next week, or even for a generation. Does
that mean you shouldn’t sow the seeds?
No! It means you should sow the seeds
immediately.
Never underestimate the
power of a seed of peace: the power of a
kind word, a seed of apology, a phone call,
an explanation. This is the way we serve a
God of peace.”
GOD OF PEACE, Father of comfort, we pray
that your kingdom would come into our
hearts and that peace would rule. Teach us
what it means to be peacemakers. Help us
cultivate peace between others and you – in
our neighbourhoods, offices, schools. Teach
us the art of building bridges and not walls.
We glorify your name, the Great God of
Peace.
