Brian Kingston, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Prime Infrastructure
- a specialist infrastructure operator that owns and manages a portfolio of high quality
infrastructure assets. A subsidiary of Brookfield Asset Management, Prime's portfolio of
infrastructure assets is primarily in the energy and transport sectors located in
Australasia, North America and Europe.
Gary Halverson, President, Australia-Pacific, Barrick Gold Corporation
– building a showcase for the mining industry in Latin America. Barrick is the largest pure
gold mining corporation in the world, with a portfolio of 26 operating mines and an
extensive pipeline of projects. It had production of 7.7 million ounces in 2008 and
reserves of 138.5 million ounces. Its headquarters are in Toronto, and it has four
regional business units located in Australia, Africa, North America and South America.
Pat Fiore, President and CEO, Bauxite and Alumina, Rio Tinto Alcan
- lessons learnt from investing in Latin America. Rio Tinto Alcan is the aluminium product
group of Rio Tinto and a global leader in the aluminium industry. Rio Tinto Alcan operates
in 26 countries and employees more than 20,000 employees. As global head of Bauxite
and Alumina, Pat is accountable for four bauxite mines and deposits in three countries
and five refineries in three countries.

– Macquarie Group is recognised as one of Asia’s leading equities and corporate advisory
firms. Macquarie is an international financial, advisory, investment and funds
management service provider operating across 28 countries. Macquarie’s Canadian
activities include specialised asset management, advisory and capital markets, financial
markets and lending.
Brian Hansen, Managing Principal and Practice Coordinator of the Asia Pacific Group of
Stikeman Elliott
– the company’s experience in the Asia Pacific region has been extensive, with particular
note its involvement, over a period of more than twenty years in the resources, energy
and infrastructure and capital markets sectors throughout Australia and Asia.
Nicholas Curtis, Executive Chairman, Lynas Corporation
– the company is developing a fully integrated source of supply in the rare earths sector.
Previously Mr. Curtis developed the second largest gold deposit in China, with Sino Gold.
Its main operation – the Jinfeng Gold Mine – produces approximately 180,000 ounces of
gold annually. Sino Gold was acquired by Canada’s Eldorado Gold Corp in 2009.

underpin national economic competitiveness and productivity. As world leaders in the
field, what lessons can Australia and Canada learn from each other? Is access to PPP
equally available in Australia and Canada, both at the national and sub-national levels?

– Infrastructure Australia was established in 2008 to address the planning, funding and
implementation of Australia’s future infrastructure needs.
Larry Blain, Chief Executive Officer, Partnerships British Columbia
- how Partnerships BC has maximized the value of public capital assets and delivered $17
billion for major infrastructure projects in health care, roads, transit, bridges
and municipal services, (including 4.5 billion of private sector investment) for the BC
government's Ministries and Crown Corporations through public private partnerships.
Peter Salisbury, Senior Advisor, Alberta Investment Management Corporation
- AIMCo is a Crown Corporation with $71 billion in balanced assets, invested globally
across diverse asset classes, including equities and infrastructure in Australia and in
Canada. Mr. Salisbury has extensive experience in P3's, and infrastructure development
and financing in Canada, the U.S., and Australia.
John O'Rourke, Principal, Plenary Group
- how this company has positioned itself as one of the most successful infrastructure
companies with major interests in both Australia and Canada. It is an independent public
private partnership business that invests, develops and operates public infrastructure
over the long term.
