Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Who do I speak to about my
course/subjects?
For the remainder of your time in your
program at Macquarie University, if you have
specific questions about which subjects you
should study, please discuss these with your
local course coordinator.
Who do I speak to if I have a question
about fees?
General fee enquiries should be made
to the local course coordinator or by
contacting MQ Transnational via email at:
transnational@mq.edu.au
Where do I get my campus or
student ID card?
Your campus or student ID card should
be ready for collection from your local
course coordinator approximately 3 weeks
after you commence your study, if you
submitted a passport size colour photo
when you accepted Macquarie
University’s offer.
What is myMQ?
myMQ is the main source of information
for all current Macquarie University
students, and includes your student email
account (Gmail) and links to eStudent and
Blackboard. Approximately 48 hours after
you enrol you can retrieve your password
and login by selecting First Time Log In in
myMQ. The first time you login you will be
requested to change your password. On
the Macquarie University homepage in the
top right-hand corner is the link to Student
Portal (myMQ) or go to:
my.mq.edu.au
If you have any login queries please contact
Student IT Help at:
www.sith.mq.edu.au
What is eStudent?
eStudent is the Macquarie University
computer system that allows you to enrol
in units (subjects), register for lectures
and tutorials, update your contact details,
and check your finances and your exam
results at the end of every semester. You
can access eStudent directly from the
Macquarie University homepage or go to:
student1.mq.edu.au/login
What is Blackboard?
Blackboard is the software that controls
the online component of each unit. It
will only list the units you are currently
enrolled in and for each unit there will be
a unit outline, a discussion board to post
messages to your classmates, an email
system to directly email your teacher, and
any readings that the teacher has posted
online for you to read. Blackboard can be
accessed directly from Macquarie University
homepage (by clicking on “online units”), or
from myMQ, or go to:
learn.mq.edu.au

How can I appeal against my
grades if I think I didn’t get the
grades I deserve?
Please refer to the Office of the Dean of

What can I do if I get sick or have an
emergency that affects my studies?
If you need extra time to do an assignment
it is best to contact the lecturer directly (as
early as possible) and ask for an extension,
giving reasons why you need extra time
and providing any documentation to
support your case. If you have a serious
illness or emergency that affects an exam
or your studies, you can apply for special
consideration, which may mean that you
can sit the exam at a later date. To apply
for special consideration you should first
contact your local course coordinator.
We recommend that you email your lecturer
and/or tutor about the problem to inform
them as early as possible. Their contact
details can be found in the unit outlines of
each unit. Please note that you must attach
documentary evidence to support your
claims (eg. medical certificates).
In extremely serious cases you may need
to apply to withdraw from your studies
and defer for a semester. In this case you
should always contact your local course
coordinator and MQ Transnational at:
transnational@mq.edu.au
