Grade 12 Biology - University (SBI 4U1)
North Park C.-V.S.
Science Department
This course provides students with the opportunity for indepth study of the concepts and processes that occur in
biological systems. Students will study theory and conduct
investigations in the areas of biochemistry, metabolic
processes, molecular genetics, homeostasis, and population
dynamics. Emphasis will be placed on the achievement of
detailed knowledge and the refinement of skills needed for
further study in various branches of the life sciences and
related fields.
Course Learning Goals:
By the end of this science course, you will:
Units:
1) Biochemistry
• develop a more in-depth understanding of
various topics in biology: biochemistry,
metabolic processes, molecular genetics,
homeostasis, and population dynamics
• be able to apply the scientific method
(plan, perform, record observations, analyse results
and communicate findings) to biology
• refine your skills of scientific investigation
2) Metabolic Processes
3) Molecular Genetics
4) Homeostasis
5) Population Dynamics
(lab skills)
• be more familiar with careers in biology
(The order of the units may vary.)
Course Assessment & Evaluation:
Assessment and evaluation for this course will be conducted through: quizzes, tests, lab work
and lab reports (scientific investigation), class activities, assignments, projects and a final
examination.
Please refer to: the “Achievement Chart: Science, Grades 9-12", the “Learning Skills” chart,
the “North Park C.-V.S. Science Department Evaluation Policy”, and the “Missed
Evaluations” chart which are posted in your classroom and, online, in the science section of
the North Park website.
