PRESIDENT’S REPORT
It gives me great pleasure to present to you the Members, the President’s Report
for 2013/2014 on the activities of Wallsend Diggers.
I would like to start this report by thanking Mr Wayne Kiehne for his valuable contribution as
President for over 13 years. Wayne’s leadership has been appreciated and has contributed to the
Club that we have today. After the AGM last year Wayne stood down as President but still remains
an integral Member of the Board.
Sadly the Club lost a valuable servant this year when Patron and Past President, Col Nowlan OAM
passed away. Col devoted a great deal of his life to the Club and Sub-Branch and was respected
and admired not only within the Club but in the Community as a whole where he also gave a great
amount of time.
Long serving Director Barry Twomey was rewarded for his extensive service to the Club by being awarded Life Membership
at last year’s AGM. Congratulations Barry on becoming only the 9th Life Member of the Club.
The Club has once again had a successful trading year declaring a net profit of over $1.5 million. This result has been
achieved in uncertain economic times through strong governance and management and controls on costs.
The Board of Directors and the Management team have worked collaboratively to achieve this result.
After a long and arduous process Newcastle Council has approved our Development Application to extend the Club and
construct a 46 room Motel over the car park. We have also successfully purchased the road at the side of the Club to carry
out these works. The Board and Management are currently finalising the plans for the works to commence early in 2015.
This year we have continued an extensive internal maintenance program to ensure the building and facilities reflect the ever
changing times and allow us to prepare for taking the Club into the future.
Works have been carried out in the Brasserie to compliment the refurbished and outstanding D bar & grill Restaurant.
If you have not tried the Restaurant I can surely recommend it to you as a place for fine dining within your Club.
The Entertainment Lounge has been modernized and made more comfortable for the Members and the Guests while the
90” television adds another dimension to the room.
The HD Sports Bar brings High Definition Sport to the Club. With over 50 monitors in the area there is wall to wall sport and
racing at all times.
Throughout the year Wallsend Diggers has donated in excess of $195,000 by way of the Club Grants Scheme.
This program allows your Club to actively and financially support the many Local Community, Sporting, Cultural and
Educational Organisations within the area. We financially support the Wallsend RSL Sub Branch, Vietnam Veterans Association
and TPI Association as well as assisting Legacy and the War Widows.
Once again we assisted the Sub-Branch to conduct the ANZAC Day Dawn Service. This occasion was once again very well
supported with an ever growing number of school students attending.
We have a number of active in-house social clubs available to you the Member. Enquire at reception if you are interested in
joining our lawn bowls, golf, fishing or cricket clubs to name a few.
The success of any business can be attributed to the front line staff. Here at Wallsend Diggers we are fortunate to have
excellent staff who through their commitment delivers the excellent service that our customers deserve.
Thank you to all of our dedicated staff.
I must thank our CEO, John Hume and his Management Team for an outstanding effort during the last financial year in
delivering the Board’s strategic objectives. We are fortunate to have such a dedicated and committed team led by John.
Also I thank my Board colleagues for your outstanding contribution and commitment in the decision making process and for
the many hours that you contribute in governing the business. To Vice President Terry Morgan, Directors, Allan Crumpton,
Michael Frost, Wayne Kiehne, Ian Healy and Barry Twomey I thank you for your guidance and friendship in this my first year
as President. Your corporate knowledge and commitment to the ongoing welfare of the Club cannot be measured.
Finally to our Members I thank you for your loyal support and friendship. Your patience and understanding in the New Year
during our redevelopment will be rewarded with an even better Club that you can be proud of.

CEO’S REPORT
Dear Members,
Planning is well underway for the extension and refurbishment of the Club to commence in the near
future. The Board of Directors and Management have contributed a great deal of time to ensure that
the finer details of this project will exceed your expectations. We all look forward to “Turning the Soil”
on this project.
I am pleased to report that trade for this financial year has been a very pleasing result.
There is strong cohesion between the Board of Directors, Management and Staff.

Wallsend Diggers food offering has never been better. Diggers Brasserie and the D bar & grill are serving up some

What are Diggers Dollars?
Diggers Dollars is a members loyalty
program that gives you rewards for using your
membership card throughout the Club. The more you use your
membership card, the more reward points you will accumulate
and the more you benefit as a Wallsend Diggers Member.

Diggers Dollars loyalty program gives all members a chance to earn bonus points.
You can earn bonus points when you make a purchase on food or drinks.
You can use your bonus points that you have accumulated to purchase food, drinks or Diggers Dollars Vouchers.
Points are valid from 1st June until 31st May each year.
Where can I spend my Diggers Dollars?
Diggers Dollars Rewards (Bonus Points) can also be redeemed
for Club Vouchers and can be purchased from the change booths.
Diggers Dollars Club Vouchers come in different denominations,
and they can be used within the club to purchase food, drinks,
concert tickets, membership, raffle tickets and functions.
