They even received local press for this event! pictured below ▼ I would like to take a moment and share some thoughts about Rita Van Wie, our greeter and associate in Panera Bread of Mineola, who has been forced to retire “early” this past month due to medical issues. Rita was the heart and soul of our cafe, and truly embodies all that is “Panera Warmth” and “WOW.” She has been with Mineola since the first day it opened, and has built close relationships and created personal bonds with our guests over the past 8 years. Many of these guests would literally plan their visits to the cafe around Rita’s schedule so they could be greeted by Rita’s big smile at the door, and feel like they were eating at the house of a friend or family member. This is the atmosphere that Rita was naturally able to create around her. Over the years there have been many changes in the cafe: menu, associates, managers, décor, layout and prices – just to name a few. One thing has remained constant throughout all of this time: Rita. She truly enjoyed every second she was in the cafe. In fact, during a tear-filled final day, she informed us all that she never considered her job “work.” While we were thanking her for her great years of service, she was thanking us all for making a second “family” for her at Panera and Doherty. On a daily basis, there are too many guests asking about Rita to even count, and this is the perfect illustration of her value to us in the cafe, as well as to the company as a whole. She will truly be missed in the cafe by all who worked with her, as well as by the innumerable guests who she connected with over the years. Thank you, Rita, and a big WOW!!!! Eight girls and boys in 1st through 8th grade got a “taste” of what it’s like to work in the hospitality industry. This year’s theme was “Work in Progress.” In the morning, the kids attended an activity related to the theme of the day – they received a plain cupcake and their job was to decorate and produce a finished product to their liking. This showed the kids an example of how a work in progress is done. At lunchtime, they enjoyed lunch with their parents at The Shannon Rose in Ramsey and then they spent the afternoon with their parents and learned about what their mom/dad does at work. Overall, it was a day of fun that included educational and interactive activities. pictured left ◄ 8 Want to be seen and heard?
