colleges and universities often make changes in their requirements for majors. The information contained in this guide is based on the most
recent information available from the four-year school and does not constitute an official agreement. Recent updates to this Guide can be

Transfer applicants must complete the following courses prior to
admission to UCLA: one year of music theory and one year of
music history and analysis. Experience in music performance is
strongly recommended.
Notes: Admission to this major is competitive. Strong academic
preparation and performance are primary elements of the
admission review. You should complete as many major prep
courses as possible prior to transfer.

CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, FULLERTON
BACHELOR OF ARTS IN MUSIC
Options: Liberal Arts, Music
History/Theory
Two years of vocal or instrumental instruction. At least one year
must be in residence at UCI. One year of course work at OCC will
satisfy one year of this requirement.
Two years of performing ensemble. At least one year must be in
residence at UCI. One year of course work at OCC will satisfy
one year of this requirement.
Notes: Transfer students must pass a performance audition.
Placement in Music courses at UCI is by testing. All Music majors
must pass a piano proficiency examination as a graduation
requirement for UCI. It is recommended that students have
college-level private instrumental or voice instruction, two years
of music theory, history of western music, ear-training, sightsinging, sight-reading and piano.

The Music History program assumes that students have some
musical background prior to entering UCLA. Although auditions
are not required, prospective students should be sufficiently

on exam given by CSUF.
*Music majors must enroll concurrently in a performance group.
Notes: Transfer students are placed in music theory classes
based on their competence at entrance. Credit will be based on
that demonstrated level of competence regardless of how many
courses have been taken. Bachelor of Arts candidates must
demonstrate keyboard proficiency equivalent to CSUF's MUS
282B (third semester) to receive the Bachelor of Arts Degree.
Students planning to enter a teaching credential program are
required to earn a “B” or better in MUS 282B. Students must
have a 2.5 GPA for all music courses and must earn a grade of
C or better in each course.

to take a theory placement test and performance audition.
Students must pass a piano proficiency exam andshould have
piano proficiency through MUS 242 level. Students should also
develop theory proficiency by taking MUS 180, 185, 280, 285.
For Composition add:
Foreign Language (French, German or Italian) through 185 or 4
years study of a foreign language in high school or passing score
on exam given by CSUF.
For Performance (Opera) add:

Religious Studies, Romance, German, Russian Languages,
Women’s Gender or Sexuality Studies.
