August 26, 2014 Hola! I am very excited to be at St. Edwards School for the 2014/2015 school year! I am very happy with this opportunity and I know that your child will have a fun and rewarding experience in Spanish class. I am extremely passionate about the Spanish language, rich culture and history and cannot wait to inspire my students to develop an appreciation for this foreign language that will open doors to many opportunities. I cannot stress enough the importance of learning Spanish as a second language. Spanish is the second most common language in the U.S and the third most common in the world. Taking a foreign language like Spanish is an accomplishment to be emphasized on college and job applications. I want students to understand that Spanish can be very useful in many careers. The students will have Spanish once or twice a week (Monday & Friday) for a 30/45 minute time period. My class will be conducted in Spanish/English. Throughout the course of this year, each unit will be taught according to age level and grade. All students will be provided with an ample opportunity to explore the language and culture through different materials. In addition, students will have homework assignments, projects and monthly assessments. Materials needed: 1st and 2nd graders – folder and notebook; 3rd through 8th – notebook, folder and a Spanish/English dictionary. Success in Spanish depends on consistent study and attentiveness in class. I suggest for students to study for at least 15 min every night instead of trying to learn everything the night before a test. Spanish is not difficult, but it does require memorization, practice and good study skills. Please contact me at the school on Monday or Friday if you have any questions or would like to know more about the curriculum and expectations. Gracias/ Thank you! Attentively, Señora Carrillo
