Calientamiento- Verb worksheet handout for pair work to review Caperucita Roja. Buenos Dias Senora. In pairs students fill in the verb worksheet 5 mins Anticipatory set- Diminutives, what are they? They are used to indicate smallness of size (little), youngness, or affection. They can be used with that of people and places. In pairs students offer examples in English only. Discuss and list diminutives in English Teacher makes an English/Spanish two column list on the board. (ex. dog/puppy) Let’s look at Caperucita Roja what part is the the diminutive suffix? Cita 5 mins Students will be able to comprehend the meaning and how to construct some diminutive examples in Spanish. Grammar Lecture-Diminutives are endings or suffixes on nouns, adjectives and adverbs. The most common Spanish diminutives are – ito and –cito. Most words we drop the final vowel and add ito. Words that have more than one syllable and that end in E, N, R or a stressed vowel –cito. -Diminutives agree in number and Students follow along using a Grammar Note Taker gender(M/F S/P Grammar note taker) -Example diminutives 5 mins Discuss and list diminutives in Spanish 5 mins Each student will be able to write two sentences using different diminutives (vocab or endings). 5 mins Grammar Activity-Random participation Teacher asks for Spanish examples to complete the other column list. - Q/A Random-What are the most common diminutive suffixes? (ito/ita, cito,cita) For nouns and adjectives that end in consonants add which suffix? (ito/ita) For nouns and adjectives that end in e,n,& r which suffix do you do? (add cito) Grammar Activity- Teacher has a noun card writes two sentences to model the use of diminutives on the lined 5x8 lined card. (La casita en el bosque. Las casas pequeñitas.) Teacher will provide each student with Caperucita Roja characters cards. Students will pick a character card to write about.
