Midland College Fine Arts and Communications Division UND ER ST AN E DG LE W Speech Communication Department Speech Department Core Curriculum Speech Courses The Midland College Speech Department offers courses that introduce students to communication theories and skills which lead to the practical application of oral communication in public, small group, interpersonal and intercultural contexts. Students can enhance their ability to speak in front of a group; improve day-to-day communication with others; use communication technology effectively, or complete one of the core general education requirements. The Midland College Speech Department provides small classes that facilitate individualized instruction. SPCH 1311 Introduction to Speech Communication A practical overview of Public, Interpersonal, and Group Communication. Oral Communication Center SPCH 1321 Business and Professional Speech An application of communication skills used in the Business and Professional world of work. The Center located in Room 140 Allison Fine Arts Building provides computers with word processing and Internet connection. Students have access to an Oral Communication Library and a Performance Studio that facilitates video recording of students’ oral presentations. SPCH 1315 Public Speaking An examination of the speech making process including researching, organizing, and delivering oral presentations.
