on behalf of the Sea Surveillance Cooperation Baltic Sea (SUCBAS) I am delighted to invite you to attend our seminar at House of Estates in Helsinki, Finland. The seminar will take place in March 2012 from Wednesday 14th to Thursday 15th, which I hope fits in well with your current plans. You are, of course, still most welcome to participate even if you are only able to attend on certain days. SUCBAS is a cooperation of Baltic Sea navies from Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia and Poland with the aim to enhance maritime safety and security through exchange of information and cooperation. Please find further information on www.sucbas.org. The participating navies also act as liaison elements to civilian authorities and organisations in their countries such as police and coast guard. Importance of cooperation in the domain of maritime security is an imperative, we as navies know that more than well. After its foundation on 4th of March 2009, SUCBAS has quickly become a role model for extended international and interagency cooperation in the world. It is SUCBAS’ intention to live up to their leading role and, starting with this seminar, to address the different actors in the maritime environment and to develop a common understanding for chances and risks. For this purpose, SUCBAS will invite both, supranational organizations and renowned representatives from trade and industry. The aim of the seminar is to build trust between different actors, emphasize the overall importance of the safety and security of the seas, promote the importance of civil and military cooperation, promote the importance of global responsibility in the maritime domain, highlight the vast area of factors that do have an impact to the maritime domain, promote the capabilities and abilities of regional cooperation, honour a maritime event, act, organisation or person with “Maritime Actor of the Year” award and give food for thought. When you are interested in attending then please return your completed registration form to the e-mail or fax address below not later than 6th March 2012. In addition, please feel free to pass on this invitation to any other appropriate persons within your organisation or another representative should you not be available to attend. Regrettably seminar places are limited to 170 owing to the limitations of the premises. Early registration is, therefore, encouraged and places will then be offered on a priority basis. For any queries and further information as well as registration please feel free to contact info@sucbas.org or Antti Kaarto antti.kaarto@mil.fi. Any detailed queries about the seminar itself please contact Commander Pasi Staff, pasi.staff@mil.fi. I look forward to seeing you in Helsinki.
