AP Psychology! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! Due 11/4/13 Model Brain Project In order to earn maximum credit, all parts of this assignment must be completed. Part 1: You are going to create a three dimensional model of the human brain. Your model brain MUST be labeled with the parts of the brain, and if possible their function. It must be something created, not a printout of a brain or a photocopy from a page in your textbook. You can accompany your model brain with posters, art work, media, etc. This assignment is time consuming and designed to reinforce the parts of the brain and their functions. You CAN work with other students from other periods if you so wish. You can have a MAXIMUM of 5 students per group. If you have 5 in your group, make sure your model looks like 5 people worked on it. If you prefer to work in smaller groups or by yourself, that is acceptable as well. Part 2: You are to write type (3 paragraph minimum, double-spaced, size 12 font) a reflection essay on your experience working on Part 1. In your reflection essay, you must correctly use the terminology below to elaborate on your reflection. Once again, this assignment is time consuming and designed to reinforce the parts of the brain and their functions. EACH PERSON of a group must turn in a separate reflection essay. The following words must be used in your reflection essay: ! ! cerebellum, medulla, pons, reticular formation, thalamus, hypothalamus, amygdala, hippocampus, ! corpus callosum, frontal lobe, motor cortex, Broca’s area, prefrontal cortex, parietal lobe, ! somatosensory cortex, occipital lobe, visual cortex, temporal lobe, auditory cortex, Wernicke’s ! area (20 in total) ! ! example: Through out the completion of this assignment, I found it difficult to control my hypothalamus because I wanted to eat all of the candy that was purchased for our model brain. Part 1: Take a photo of your completed project with all members present in the picture, then email me that picture. This is due on 11/7, no exceptions. This will count for the first marking period. You may be asked to give the class a 3-5 minute debriefing about your project. There are plenty of ideas available at your disposal. If you’re stumped, just Google “how to create a model brain”. EDIBLE MODELS ARE ALLOWED. Good luck! ☺
