This activity has been designed to consolidate the language in the topic area of telling the time. Students say a time in Japanese and touch the corresponding digital time box to reveal the word in Japanese (hiragana). The flashcards can also be used for pronunciation practice drills. Touch the speaker icon under each card to hear the time in Japanese. Time anagram This activity can be used to consolidate vocabulary related to time as students need to have learnt the vocabulary for telling the time on the hour. Students touch 'Start' and rearrange the hiragana to make a time word. Students touch 'Clue' to reveal the time in English. Select 'Reset" to have another attempt. The idea is to find matching pairs by turning over two cards. This activity can be played individually, in pairs or in class teams. Select 'Edit' to substitute the hiragana times for kanji. Time ­ reading characters This activity has been designed to help students recognise the hiragana of time words in kanji. Students can complete individually or in teams for the top score. There are eight time words in kanji. Students find the correct hiragana reading within the time limit to receive a time bonus. The faster the time, the higher the points bonus. Select 'Edit' to change the questions and answers. The character set can also be modified if teachers would like to use roomaji and hiragana. Students will need to be familiar with telling the time on the hour, at half hour intervals and in five and ten minute increments. Students touch the moving images to pause on a randomly selected picture and then choose the sentence that best fits the picture by selecting one of three options. Students will see whether their answer is correct or incorrect. The images will start rotating again as soon as an answer is chosen. Clocks ­ make up the time This activity is a consolidation of all expressions related to telling time in hours and minutes. Students will need to be familiar with the kanji for numbers and times. Students read the time underneath each clock face and make up the correct time by moving the clock hands into place. Each clock hand can be moved by touching and dragging into place.
