Students will start to learn from basic syllables as the Japanese language has three kinds of syllables. Since each syllable form is quite unique, it will require a rather big amount of time to learn these. At the end of this semester, students are expected to reach the level of knowing all basic syllables (which is Hiragana) and basic structure of Japanese sentences. Furthermore, the main textbook will be learned until Unit 4. COURSE MATERIALS: -- Minna no Nihongo I – Japanese for everybody I -- Kana nyuumon – An introduction to the Japanese syllables ATTENDANCE: All students are expected to attend at least 80% of all lesson hours, be in class and leave the class on time. For the absence more than 20% of lesson hours without legitimate excuse, the students will lose the right for the entry to any examination and fail from the course. EXAMINATION: One mid-term examination and one final examination will be given in the course. Since students have the knowledge of basic syllables, Hiragana & Katakana, the most difficult syllable, Kanji will be introduced. Minna no Nihongo, Kanji 1 will be learnt until Unit 2. The main textbook will be forwarded to Unit 15 to learn more Japanese grammars and sentence patterns. Furthermore, to enhance the listening and conversational skills, listening tasks will be done by using Mainichi no Kikitori 1 (Everyday Listening 1), which has been specially designed for those skills.
