automated applicant tracking systems. For the purpose of this discussion, we are examining how to
combine visual impact, stellar content and strategic branding to create a visual networking resume with
high impact.

industry, company needs, culture and mission. Target your pitch to them, learn the
language they use;

BRANDING THROUGH CREATIVITY & DESIGN
Creative resumes are tasteful and targeted documents that have one goal - to gain interest in wanting
to learn more about our clients’. Sometimes, all that is needed is a unique quote, presentation, or
layout, and other times a more dramatic design is called for.
Creative Design Tips:
 Use colour and shading. Colour can add a WOW factor, but be careful not to go overboard. Add
colour to symbols that separate text, bullets, section lines, chart and table colours, or shading
behind blocks of text;
 Charts and graphs add an attractive and easy-to-read design element. This visual representation can
be an effective way to sell your clients achievements in one quick glance;
 Graphics, icons and monograms can be inserted into your designs to add visual impact;
 Fonts are a fun tool, but don’t get carried away. Reserve unique font choices for client’s name and
headings;
 Use justification styles to ensure that you are using white space to your advantage and the overall
symmetry of the document is maintained.
