The School Board approved the 2008-09 course catalog on January 8. Concomitantly, the high school principals made a request to include three additional Advanced Placement (AP) courses during a meeting in January. The rationale is to provide more advanced level offerings to students in the schools without an IB program. Once approved, these three courses will be available at all the high schools where staffing qualifications permit. The new AP courses and the corresponding textbooks are as follows: AP Psychology Textbook: Psychology (8th edition, by David G. Myers, Worth Publishers ISBN: 0-7167- 6428-8) AP Macroeconomics Textbook: Economics (AP ed.) (by Krugman, P. & Wells, R., 2006, New York: Worth Publishers) AP European History Textbook: Western Civilization: Since 1300 (by Speilvogel, Thompson Learning ISBN: 0-534-14500-0) • • The AP Psychology and AP Macroeconomics textbooks are currently adopted for the Virtual Advanced Placement Courses offered by the Virginia Department of Education. The AP European History textbook is currently adopted for the Commonwealth Governor’s School course. These new AP courses will be an addendum to the 2008-2009 course catalog.
