Digital Library resources
Can’t find what you’re looking for?
Finding and borrowing books and journals
Much of what you want from the library is available online and can be accessed
through the website at: www.ed.ac.uk/is/library
Ask at the Helpdesk as the staff there may be able to help you find what you are
looking for or find an alternative source of information.
The Library Catalogue
Alternatively use the “Library” tab in MyEd at: https://www.myed.ed.ac.uk/
For journal articles and other material that we do not hold in the library you can
request a copy through our Inter-Library Loan (ILL) service at:
Access to MyEd and most online library resources (full-text e-journals, e-books, etc.)
needs your EASE username and password. Once logged in to MyEd you will be able
to access those library resources that require EASE–authenticated access without
having to log in again.
www.ed.ac.uk/is/inter-library
Students can use the “Request a Book” form to ask the Library to purchase books
that they need for their studies:
www.ed.ac.uk/is/book-recommendations
Printing and copying
Printing and copying facilities are available throughout the library, except on Floor 3
which is a designated silent study area.
All printing and copying will be charged to your account; you should credit your
account by using the Online Print Credit channel on MyEd. You can also purchase
printing and copying credit at the Helpdesk.
During semester, Mobile Device Clinics must be booked in advance using the MyEd
Event booking channel (EASE Login required).

If you want to research a topic but do not have a list of references try:
Databases
To find out where else you can study at KB with a fixed computer or without, pick
up the leaflet “A guide to the informal study spaces at the King’s Buildings” or look
online at:
The Library subscribes to an extensive range of specialist databases.

An A-Z of databases is available: www.ed.ac.uk/is/databases-a-z
Find databases for your subject here: www.ed.ac.uk/is/databases-subjects
Searcher
Seeking help
Searcher is the Library’s Discovery tool which you can use to search across most
of the Library resources at the same time. Your initial search will return results for
items which are either physically available in the Library or to which we provide
online access. Using Searcher gives you easy access to the full text of e-books and
e-journal articles. There are also options to refine and expand your search.
The Helpdesk is located on Floor 1 and staff there can help with a wide range of
queries directly or can forward queries to appropriate specialist help.
Want help finding articles on a research topic? Ask your Academic Support
Librarian (see opposite) or come to see us in the library on Thursday lunchtimes
during semester time.
For print resources the library location and shelfmark identify where the book or
journal is located in the library. You will find all the print journals and the older book
collections in the KB Library Store. This is in front of the Darwin Building and is
open 24/7 by valid University swipe card. Visitors should contact staff in the Murray
Library before the day of their visit.
