1. Preparing to come to Edinburgh
Apply for University accommodation or research
private housing
Apply for a visa (if you need to)
Plan your budget
Check health insurance arrangements
Check the date stated in your offer of admission and
ensure you will be ready to begin studies on that date
Students with disabilities
Contact one of our Disability Advisors as soon as
possible to discuss any specific requirements
2. Before you travel
When you are ready to book your travel to Edinburgh,
there are some things you need to remember.
Check if you are required to show a tuberculosis
screening certificate
Tuition fees
Make arrangements for the payment of your tuition fees
Check your offer letter to see whether there are any
additional costs associated with your programme
University student card
Apply for and collect your student card
Student email & computing
Activate your University e-mail account
Make sure that you routinely access this e-mail
account as the University will use this to contact you
throughout your time of study
Practicalities
Register with the police (if required)
Register with a doctor
Make sure you have photocopied your passport
Open a UK bank account
Buy personal and travel insurance
Take the TEAM test (if applicable)
Bring appropriate clothes

3. Getting started once you arrive
Joining instructions
Complete the matriculation process. This consists of
three elements:
Online Registration via your MyEd portal
www.myed. ed.ac.uk
Meeting your Personal Tutor or Supervisor
Fulfilling any admission criteria as prescribed by your
College
Welcome events
Attend the International Day on Sunday 7 September
Make sure you know which College and/or School
events you MUST attend
