2nd Grade Prayers Please help your child learn the following prayers: Morning Prayer – Memorize by October Evening Prayer – Memorize by November Act of Contrition – Memorize by February Rite of Penance – Memorize by February Order of the Mass/Mass Responses – Memorize by April NOTE : The 2nd Grade year focuses on the celebration of the Mass and the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist. We expect children at this age to know the parts of the Mass and the form (words and actions) of Communion and Confession. It is vital that 2nd Graders attend Mass each week! They are expected to attend 100% of their religious education class sessions to assist them in being adequately prepared for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist. The Diocese of Austin has recommended guidelines for what children should be learning each year in religious education. Please familiarize yourself with the teachings and the prayers to be learned at your child’s grade level so we can work together to ensure that your child develops knowledge of the basic principles of our faith. For each grade level, there are prayers to be memorized. Please begin praying these prayers with your child now, and be sure that he or she knows them by the dates indicated. We are also interested in helping the children learn what these prayers mean, so discussion of the prayers in the child’s own language is strongly encouraged. St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church will be using Faith First Legacy as the curriculum for our Faith Formation program. Please visit their website to learn more about what your child is learning in class. www.faithfirst.com 2nd Grade Prayers MORNING PRAYER RITE OF PENANCE O loving God, I give you this day All that I think and do and say, Uniting it with what was done On earth, by Jesus Christ, your Son.
