Achieving Greater Success ...
SERVICE AND SOLUTIONS THAT
EMPOWER YOU TO SUCCEED
The Evelyn K. Davis Center for Working
Families is a central location for
everything you need to succeed:
3 Income and Work Supports
Education
Education is the key to improving employment
opportunities, and education can come in a
variety of ways. From literacy programs to HiSET
(high school equivalency exams), high school
diploma and college degrees, to specialized credit
programs, all can help connect people with familysustaining jobs.
At the Center, we help individuals sort through their
educational options and find the best way for them
to access the knowledge and skills they need to
energize their career and job prospects.

Supporters and Partners
The Evelyn K. Davis Center for Working Families
is fortunate to have a group of businesses from
throughout Central Iowa that are partners in this
life-transforming Center. Some businesses partner
with us in developing training programs to help our
customers receive the workplace readiness skills
necessary to be successful in the current workforce.
Other businesses are matching funds with the
Center to support programming because they
believe in the mission of the Center. We are grateful
for the generous support of our partners who give
so more Iowans can succeed.

WHAT IS THE EVELYN K.
DAVIS CENTER FOR
WORKING FAMILIES?
The Center is where individuals get help
overcoming obstacles that stand between
them and achieving employment that
can sustain themselves and their families.
This first-in-the-nation model is a single
location where multiple service providers
collaborate to provide services including
education, targeted skills training, real work
experience, connections to social services,
help finding employment opportunities,
and improved financial literacy. Targeted
populations for service include those who
are unemployed, disenfranchised or face
extra barriers to employment.
Support
Collaborators
Support, hope, potential—we offer that and
more to everyone who steps into the Evelyn K.
Davis Center for Working Families. Support is
everywhere, from our staff of educators to job
trainers and counselors. We deliver services that
individuals and families need to sustain themselves
and prepare for their new careers. We help
individuals move forward in their lives through
our integrated support service network.
The center is a partnership between the
Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines,
United Way of Central Iowa, and Des Moines
Area Community College (DMACC). Along with a
grocery store located in the same building complex,
the partnership provides solutions to three critical
needs identified by local residents: workforce
training, employment opportunities and grocery
and retail services.
Careers
At the Evelyn K. Davis Center for Working Families,
individuals will get a head start on employment
and improving their chances for long-term work
and careers with Central Iowa companies. That’s
because they get easy access to on-the-job training
and a direct connection to many Central Iowa
businesses that are partners of the Center.
