Davis Center for Working Families is a central location for everything you need to succeed: 3 Income and Work Supports Education Education is the key to improving employment opportunities, and education can come in a variety of ways. From literacy programs to HiSET (high school equivalency exams), high school diploma and college degrees, to specialized credit programs, all can help connect people with familysustaining jobs. At the Center, we help individuals sort through their educational options and find the best way for them to access the knowledge and skills they need to energize their career and job prospects. 3 Financial Literacy and Asset Building Supporters and Partners The Evelyn K. Davis Center for Working Families is fortunate to have a group of businesses from throughout Central Iowa that are partners in this life-transforming Center. Some businesses partner with us in developing training programs to help our customers receive the workplace readiness skills necessary to be successful in the current workforce. DAVIS CENTER FOR WORKING FAMILIES? The Center is where individuals get help overcoming obstacles that stand between them and achieving employment that can sustain themselves and their families. This first-in-the-nation model is a single location where multiple service providers collaborate to provide services including education, targeted skills training, real work experience, connections to social services, help finding employment opportunities, and improved financial literacy. Targeted populations for service include those who are unemployed, disenfranchised or face extra barriers to employment. Support Collaborators Support, hope, potential—we offer that and more to everyone who steps into the Evelyn K. Davis Center for Working Families. Support is everywhere, from our staff of educators to job trainers and counselors. We deliver services that individuals and families need to sustain themselves and prepare for their new careers. We help individuals move forward in their lives through our integrated support service network. The center is a partnership between the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines, United Way of Central Iowa, and Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC). Along with a grocery store located in the same building complex, the partnership provides solutions to three critical needs identified by local residents: workforce training, employment opportunities and grocery and retail services. Careers At the Evelyn K. Davis Center for Working Families, individuals will get a head start on employment and improving their chances for long-term work and careers with Central Iowa companies. That’s because they get easy access to on-the-job training and a direct connection to many Central Iowa businesses that are partners of the Center.
