Gleasons receive RIT award

Gleason Corp. chairman James Gleason and his wife, Janis,
have been named 2007 recipients of the Nathaniel Rochester
Society Award at Rochester Institute of Technology, RIT officials
said Thursday.
The Gleasons have committed more than $40 million to the
university in a longtime partnership, officials said. The award
recognizes individuals who have contributed to RIT in an
outstanding and significant way.
“The Gleasons’ contributions toward excellence in engineering
have advanced the Kate Gleason College to the top ranks of U.S.
engineering programs,” said Lisa Cauda, vice president of
development and alumni relations. “RIT owes much of its success
to the Gleason family and most recently to Jim and Jan’s
steadfast friendship.”
James Gleason represents the third generation of Gleasons to
serve on the RIT board of trustees. He has been a board member
since 1977. Janis Gleason is a past member of the RIT Women’s
Council. They have been members of the Nathaniel Rochester
Society, an organization of donors, since 1977.
