HOW DOES GOD EXPECT HIS CHILDREN TO FOLLOW HIS WORDS?

Throughout the Bible, God has given His commandments for His children to follow. God’s Word is the final authority, and man has no right to change it. In

Numbers 4 , God has given specific instructions for the sons of Levi (Kohath, Gershon, and Merari) in carrying out the work in the tabernacle.

More importantly, God gave the Kohathites specific instructions on how to move the holy things.

The Kohathites were in charge of the most holy things in the tabernacle

( Numbers 4:4 ).

When Aaron and his sons were preparing the holy things to be moved, they inserted poles for the movement of the altar and ark of Testimony ( Numbers 4:6 ).

Also, the Kohathites were not to go in while the holy things were being covered lest they die ( Numbers 4:20 ).

The Kohathites were to carry the holy things ( Numbers 4:15 ).

God gave specific instructions to Kohath, Gershon, and Merari on holy to transport the items of the tabernacle ( Number 7:1-9 ).

Notice: “ Two carts and four oxen he gave to the sons of Gershon, according to their service ” ( Numbers 7:7 ).

“ And four carts and eight oxen he gave to the sons of Merari, according to their service, under the authority of Ithamar the son of Aaron the priest ” ( Numbers 7:8 ).

“ But to the sons of Kohath he gave none, because theirs was the service of the holy things, which they carried on their shoulders

” (

Numbers 7:9 ).

If anyone touched any of the holy things, they would die

( Numbers 4:15 ).

Now notice the two results of carrying the ark of the testimony during the reign of king David.

David had the ark of Testimony moved from the house of Abinadab, and wanted it moved to the City of David ( 2 Samuel 6:2, 10 ).

The ark of the Testimony was placed on a new cart ( 2 Samuel 6:3 ).

Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, moved the cart carrying the ark of the Testimony ( 2 Samuel 6:3 ).

When the ark of the

Testimony came to Nachon’s threshing floor, the oxen stumbled and Uzzah put out his hand to steady the ark of the Testimony ( 2 Samuel 6:6 ).

Because Uzzah touched the ark of the Testimony, God struck him for his error and he died ( 2 Samuel 6:7 ).

King

David could not understand why God struck Uzzah dead and became angry ( 2 Samuel

6:8 ).

David realized God’s special instructions and moved the ark of the Testimony the correct way ( 1 Chronicles 15:2 ).

David had the priests and the Levites move the ark of the Testimony ( 1 Chronicles 15:2 ).

The priests and the Levites were to sanctify themselves before bring up the ark of the testimony ( 1 Chronicles 15:14 ).

The Levites were to carry the ark of the Testimony on their shoulders, by it poles ( 1 Chronicles

15:15 ).

David finally realized things needed to be done by according to the word of God

( 1 Chronicles 15:15 ).

What lessons can we learn? What does God expects from His children in following His commandments?

God still expect His children to follow His commandments ( John 14:15; 1 John 2:3; 2 John 6 ).

There are many who do not want to follow His commandments.

Many do not follow God’s commandments on His plan of salvation ( Romans 10:17; Mark 16:16; Acts 17:30; Romans 10:9-10; Acts 22:16;

Revelation 2:10 ).

Many do not follow God’s commandments on proper worship to Him

( 2 Timothy 4:1-5; 1 Corinthians 16:1-2; Acts 2:42; Ephesians 5:19; 1 Corinthians

11:23-26 ).

Many do not follow God’s commandments on marriage and divorce

( Matthew 19:9 ).

Many do not follow God’s commandments on living a moral life

( Romans 1:18-32; 2 Timothy 3:1-5 ).

Why do some not keep God’s commandments?

Some follow the teaching of man ( 2 Timothy 4:3-4 ).

Some believe there is an easier and quicker way – a better way.

Some say, “That is not what God really said.” Some say, “God did not say not do it.” Some say, “Times have changed.” Some do not keep

God’s commandments because of ignorance (

Acts 17:11 ).

God has given His commandments from the beginning for His children to follow.

Man has no right to change or alter God’s commandments.

Will you choose to follow

God’s commandments faithfully?
