Reviewing the 2012-13 Strategic Plan
~ As planned we promoted SOBC - North Shore as much as possible, making our organization more
widely known.
~ In an effort to further develop our Provincial athletes, some seasons were lengthened and additional
practices held.
~ We promoted our desire to have an Athlete’s Counsel and will continue to pursue this goal next year.
~ We boast both new athletes and volunteers and have more youth involved than ever before.
~ Our Sport Start sessions were increased allowing more youth to partake in these great programs.
~ A new database was created to further refine systems for easier record keeping.
~ Fundraising had excellent results this year.
Highlights from 2012-13
In the past year we have:
~ Expanded our existing programs by offering longer sessions
...Basketball grew so large that we were able to divide it into 2 separate programs and extend the season
from September through June at the request of our athletes.
...We now offer 3 Club Fit sessions which allowed us to extend that season from 3 months to 10.
...Our fall Sport Start programs have additional sessions to allow more athletes and longer sessions.
~ Added athletes where the demand existed.
~ Seen growth in most of our existing programs.
~ Continued to develop our LTAD model.
~ Offered additional training to coaches to meet the latest Special Olympics Canada guidelines - we
hold the highest certification percentage of the BC locals.
Fundraising
More Highlights
This year was definitely a good one for fundraising. We started out the year with a fundraising challenge: Find
an extra $20,000 to finance the training, uniforms and expenses of our athletes going to the Provincial
Summer Games. Christine Little got the ball rolling with a review of our past fundraising initiatives and
proposed a strategic approach that put an emphasis on targeted requests and putting our energies in to those
efforts that promised the highest return. As a result, we received over $8,000 combined from Mount Seymour
Lions Club, IGA Marketplace Esplanade and North Vancouver Host Lions Club towards our “Fund an
Athlete” initiative.
We’ve also received notice of a grant that we will see in next year’s budget from Coast Capital Savings in the
amount of $8,400.00 to support our youth programs.
2013 Walkathon
This year’s walkathon was a “perfect storm” -- keen athletes stepped up to raise
funds for this very important event; organizing committee,
Tracy Evans,
Nancy LeBlevec, Karen Robson and Karen Stevens, pulled off the planning,
prize gathering and setup. This year our goal was set higher than ever. We not
only met but exceeded our goal and brought in $21,000. Money is still trickling
in! The Ambleside Tiddleycove Lions Club served a delicious pancake breakfast. This was a very well
received addition to the Walkathon and hopefully will
become an annual event as well. Also new to the
Walkathon were the online pledge forms.
This
allowed athletes to seek donations electronically and
reach out to people outside our province and country.
This accounted for nearly $5000 of the revenue made.
Congratulations
Nick Kellof was chosen as the recipient of the 2013 North Shore Sports Award.
Nick also brought home awards for both the 2013 March Madness “Shooting Star”
and “Best Defensive Player” in his division. Congratulations to a very deserving
athlete!
