Kirkland, Director of College Counseling COLLEGE PROFILE 2012 - 2013 School Background and Location: Linden Hall was founded in 1746 and is the oldest girls’ boarding/day school in the United States. Committed to excellence in the education of young women, Linden Hall provides a rigorous and multifaceted college preparatory experience. Our community values scholarly achievement, character development, cultural awareness, and physical wellness, as it strives to prepare young women to assume the leadership roles of their generation. The 47-acre campus is situated two blocks from the square in Lititz, PA, a safe and charming town of 8,000 located between Harrisburg and Philadelphia. Enrollment/Class Size: Linden Hall has 250 Middle and Upper School students in grades 5-12. The average class size is 12. Accreditations and Memberships: The School is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Membership is held in the National Association of Independent Schools, the Pennsylvania Association of Independent Schools, and the Association of Boarding Schools. Faculty Credentials: Seventy-five percent (75%) of Linden Hall’s faculty have graduate degrees. SAT Program:* During 2011-2012, Linden Hall students earned school record high SAT scores of 2095 (median) and 2076 (mean). A median subject test score of 740 was achieved with 88 students testing in seven subjects. Students in Honors classes are required to take the corresponding SAT subject test. The maximum number of Honors courses a student may take each year is regulated by administrative approval. Advanced Placement Program: A 4.6 average AP score was achieved in 2011-2012 with 100% of exam results earning scores of 3, 4, or 5. Forty (40) students were tested and took 90 tests. The maximum number of AP courses a student may take each year is regulated as follows: tenth grade (1), eleventh grade (2), twelfth grade (3). Administrative approval is needed for any changes. Eighteen AP courses are available, and students in AP courses are required to take the corresponding AP exam. Students also have the option of taking AP and post AP courses from the accredited Online School for Girls. Specific subject requirements are: English 4 credits Mathematics 3 credits, including Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra II Social Sciences 3 credits, including US History Science 3 credits, including Chemistry and Biology World Languages 3 credits, including 2 years in upper school Fine Arts 1 credit Students must carry a minimum of 5 major courses each year. Administrative approval is needed for any changes. Academic Year: Linden Hall operates on a quarter system. All classes are forty-eight minutes in length and meet five days per week. Grade Distribution: All students; five major academic classes A’s = 26% B’s = 42% C’s = 20% D’s = 7% Grading Policy: F’s = 5% Grade point averages are computed based on courses in the five major academic areas: English, Mathematics, Social Sciences, Science, and World Languages.
