Environmental Engineers make a difference to the world by using their expertise to create sustainable solutions to environmental problems. The key difference between a dietitian and a nutritionist is that, in addition to or as part of their qualification in human nutrition, a dietitian has undertaken a course of study that included substantial theory and supervised and assessed professional practice in clinical nutrition, medical nutrition therapy and food service management. So, in Australia, all dietitians are considered to be nutritionists however, nutritionists without a dietetics qualification cannot take on the specialised role of a dietitian. Dietitians can work in a range of areas including – Patient care Dietitians are responsible for assessing the nutritional needs of patients, planning appropriate diets and educating patients and their families. Community nutrition and public health Dieticians are involved in nutrition and health education programs. This can be at the local community level or for the population at a national level. Dietitians working in public health also assist with health planning, setting nutritional standards, and developing and implementing nutrition policies. Food service and management Dietitians combine management skills and nutrition expertise when delivering food services in hospitals, nursing homes, meals on wheels, hospitality and catering. Dietitians also manage nutrition services and health programs. Consultancy/private practice Dietitians provide consultancy services to individuals, groups and organisations which include individual counselling, group programs, preventive health programs and nutrition education. Dietitians also prepare nutritional information for publication; work with the media and in public relations. Food industry Dietitians working in the food industry are involved in food regulatory issues (food law), food safety and quality systems, consumer and health professional education, nutrition research, product development, nutrition-related marketing and public relations. Research and teaching Dietitians work as part of research teams investigating nutrition and health issues and developing practical nutrition recommendations. Dietitians are also involved in training student dietitians, doctors and other health professionals. Career in Carpentry & Cabinet Making Carpenters construct, erect, install, finish and repair wooden and metal structures and fixtures on residential and commercial buildings. Some carpenters may also carry out work on large concrete, steel and timber structures such as bridges, dams, power stations and civil engineering projects. Carpentry is one of the many trades that come under building & construction. With further training and experience, a carpenter could become a building supervisor, building or construction manager, building inspector, technical teacher, estimator, building contract administrator or purchasing officer. Cabinet makers specialise in cabinetry which involves using specialist carpentry tools and techniques. Cabinet makers are skilled at using the latest technology in designing, manufacturing and finishing quality fitted furniture for areas like kitchens, bathrooms, showrooms, shop fittings, etc. Most cabinetmakers are employed by companies that manufacture kitchens, bathrooms, furniture and prefabricated wooden components. These companies are often small businesses that make custom-made items or undertake repairs and restoration, or larger companies that manufacture and install fixed or free-standing furniture for commercial and residential projects. To become a carpenter or cabinetmaker one usually has to complete an apprenticeship in Carpentry or Cabinet Making. In Victoria, carpenters must either be accredited as or work under the supervision of a registered building practitioner. Career as an Insurance Agent Insurance agents represent insurance companies and sell insurance to clients, including individuals and organisations. Some insurance agents are also licensed financial planners and/or investment advisers.
