Children’s Ministry Policies & Procedures
Well Child Policy
We are committed to providing a
healthy environment for all the children
who participate in our ministry
programs. Any child who is suspected
of having a communicable disease or
who exhibits other signs and
symptoms which include any of the
following, should be separated from
other children in the class and the
parents notified immediately so the
child can be cared for appropriately:
fever or vomiting in the past 24 hours;
diarrhea (more than one abnormally
loose stool within a 24 hour period);
runny nose (anything but clear
discharge); excessive coughing;
discharge in or around the eyes;
conjunctivitis (Pink Eye); untreated
infectious skin patch(es) or any
questionable rash; pediculosis (head
lice) ;any other unusual sign or
symptom of illness.
If a child is being treated with an
antibiotic, he or she should have
received treatment for at least 24
hours before.
Siblings & Guests
For ages Nursery to 24 months,
siblings will not be allowed to
accompany a younger sibling. Only a
parent/guardian may accompany the
child.
For children ages three years to 5th
grade an older sibling or guest may
accompany the youngest sibling to his/
her class.
For their safety, younger children
will not be allowed to attend class
with an older sibling or guest. No
exceptions will be made.
Approved Activities
Activities outside of the classroom (i.e.
playground time & story time) need to
be kept safe for children. To ensure
safety of each child do not leave
any location until a complete count
has been performed. A leader
should be at the head and end of the
“line”. (If applicable another adult
leader should place themselves in the
middle.) When reaching the desired
location, children should be counted
again, and every time you change
location.
Staffing Ratios
Infant Nursery - class consists of infants to 17 months that are not yet confidently
walking.
Toddler Nursery - class consists of 18 months to 24 months. Depending on the
number of infants and children attending, the Infant Nursery & Toddler Nursery
classes may be combined.
It is our goal at Parkcrest Christian Church to provide the safest and the highest quality of care possible to the children that have been entrusted to us.
Classroom Ratio
Infant to 17 months: 1 volunteer to 2 infants
18 months to 24 months: 1 volunteer to 4 toddlers
2 years - 3 years:1 volunteer to 8 children
Preschool: 1 volunteer to 12 children
Kindergarten - 1st grade: 1 volunteer to 20 children
2nd – 5th Grades: 1 volunteer to 25 children
Security Policy
Security Check-In is required for all children ages 6 weeks to 5th grade.
Checking In/Drop-off Using the computer “check-in” system, a two-part parent/child
sticker will be printed. Child’s name and security number must be on the tag
prior to drop off. The parent is to keep the other sticker tag listing child and siblings
with security numbers.
Children should not be accepted into a classroom without a “security sticker”
with both their name & a parent ID number on it.
Pick Up Parent must present a “parent security sticker” to the CM leader at the
child’s classroom. Children should never be released to a minor/sibling. Even if they
are in possession of the security tag. The CM leader will match the child’s security
number to the child and his/her belongings before releasing the child to the parent.
Please make sure to remove the child’s sticker before they leave.
Should a parent arrive without their Parent Security Sticker, the leader must ask for a
valid picture ID and/or the parent must find a CM Staff Member before releasing the
child into their custody.
Restroom Procedures
Leaders may never take a child to the restroom alone. They must be accompanied
by another adult or other children and wait outside of the restroom unless a child
requires assistance.
Children in grades 2rd – 5th may be sent in pairs to the restroom without supervision.
Children should have as much privacy as possible. Enter a bathroom stall only when
absolutely necessary to assist the child, keeping the door open.
2 Leader Rule
Physical contact with children should be minimal and only in the presence of other
adults. Appropriate touching should be limited to handshakes, high fives, brief hugs,
or a brief touch on the shoulder.
Leaders may not have children sit on their lap while the room is darkened or when
other leaders are not present. Children should be encouraged to sit on the floor or in
their own chair.
Classroom doors and window blinds are to be kept open at all times unless it is
necessary to darken the room for proper showing of videos or projected audio-visual
equipment.
Substitute Policy
Having familiar faces in the classroom always helps children feel connected and improves their learning and overall experience.
However, we do understand that there are times when team members are not available to serve.
If you know in advance you will be out, PLEASE let us know as soon as possible! Your timeliness in this matter is always greatly
appreciated and a huge help in finding coverage for your class.
If you need to call out for a Sunday, please send an e-mail to: childrensministry@parkcrest.org, or call Amy Naluai at (562)
421-9374 ext. 130.
In case of a sudden emergency or sickness or call outs made after 5pm on Thursday, please text message or call
(562) 881-3076 and leave your name, the date for the Sunday you are missing, the service time where you serve and the age
group in which you serve.
