Until its 2010 decision to spin off its downstream assets to Phillips
66, Houston-based ConocoPhillips was the fifth largest integrated energy company globally; it remains the largest independent pure-play exploration and production company in the world. The company produces half a million barrels of oil equivalent per day in the U.S. alone, and has worldwide crude refining capacity of approximately 2.7 billion BPD.

ConocoPhillips’ Los Angeles Refinery is composed of two linked facilities located roughly five miles apart— one in Carson, Calif., and the other in Wilmington, Calif.
In aggregate, the L.A. Refinery has a processing capacity of 139 MBD, receiving domestic crude by pipeline from California and domestic and international crude from tankers, through a terminal in the Port of Long
Beach. The refinery processes mainly heavy, high-sulfur crude.
The Wilmington facility takes processed crude from the
Carson facility and upgrades the products, producing transportation fuels, such as gasoline, diesel fuel and jet fuel. Other products include fuel-grade petroleum coke. The refinery also produces California Air Resources Board (CARB) gasoline, using ethanol, to meet government-mandated oxygenate requirements.
OnQuest was asked by ConocoPhillips to design and construct a 30-million BTU reactor charge heater at the
Wilmington facility. Our work included: n
Design engineering for a two-pass cylindrical radiant-tube heater with a horizontal convection section n
Design to incorporate four (4) upward-firing ultralow NOx burners that could reduce NOx to 20 ppmv n
Engineering and design of radiant section, convection section, and stack, along with the ultra-low
NOx burners n
Design and installation of a selective catalytic reduction unit (SCR) to complement the NOx burners, reducing NOx emissions to 5 ppmv n
Design and installation of an NH

injection grid
Established in 2002, OnQuest is an industry leader in process design and applied combustion technology for clients in the energy industry.
We specialize in turnkey EPC for small and mid-sized liquefied natural gas (LNG) plants, hydrocarbon reforming—including hydrogen, ammonia and methanol—and renewable energy facilities such as bio-fuels and waste-to-energy plants.
OnQuest also designs direct-fired furnaces and related combustion technologies, including burner management systems, waste heat recovery systems, NOx reduction technologies and thermal oxidizers. We are experts in revamps and retrofits of existing furnace units, and support process facilities with a range of custom replacement parts.
At OnQuest, we pride ourselves on our ability to manage projects on a lump-sum, fixedprice basis—from concept to commissioning. We have delivered solutions for most of the major energy producing companies.
Based near Los Angeles, OnQuest has offices in Calgary and Houston and we have sales representatives worldwide. OnQuest does business in Canada as OnQuest Canada U.L.C.
(formerly Born Heaters Canada U.L.C.).
OnQuest, Inc. and OnQuest Canada U.L.C. are subsidiaries of Primoris Services Corporation
(NASDAQ: PRIM), one of the largest specialty construction companies in the U.S.
